Anyone find a solution to this
The OP's solution (in post #10) was to fix broken wires under the drivers side door jamb cover.

More info on that here:

Also, if something has been spilled into the 4x4 switch (like coffee or soft drink), that could cause the switch to stick.
It could also be something physical, like a coin, etc. stuck under the switch that keeps if from returning to the proper position.

I'm having the same problem with my 2015 Jeep Patriot-warning light comes on-can't access 4WD.
Start by checking the error codes, see what the system thinks is going on.

Another area to check is the wiring under the drivers kick / door sill. See link below.

I have a 2016 Jeep Patriot and I am not only having same issue with 4WD! sensor light staying on but so is the ABS, ESC and will not go in cruise control when button is pushed. Vehicle has only 70,000 miles on it.
Welcome to the forum.

The cruise control won't work if there's any issues with the ABS system.

It could be a bad wheel speed sensor, or the clip that holds the sensor in place has corroded to the point the sensor is loose and not reading properly, or something else.

Get the codes read and see what the system thinks is going on.

If you don't have a code reader / scanner a local auto parts store might read the codes for you free of charge.

TY. My vehicle is going to our mechanic next week. I thought the cruise issue was due to ABS sensor light. Again TY. Hopefully our mechanic can fix this.

More news

So I ended up pulling the drivers floor trim and joing the broken wire again. This actually solved the problem. I could drive down the road and pull the wire while driving and cause the alarm. Great I think I have solved the problem.

However last week my wife got her oil changed and the problem has come back. I have a feeling when they are putting the car on the hoist it is pulling the cable when the suspension relaxes. I am going to trace the wiring further than just the drivers side dorr to see what more I can find.

Does anyone know of any good resources to at least get some diagrams of this system??

Thanks

Hi Everyone,

My wife has an 08 Patriot, the 4wd! is currently coming on when we drive. After taking it for a oil change it was found that this is the sensor that is in the rear diff. I think this is used to check against the wheel sensors to work out what wheel maybe losing tracking etc for abs and 4wd. Anyway, the wire has split very very close to the diff. The dealership soldered this bak up and this worked for a few days but it is back. I have jumped underneath and it is still soldered, however I am wondering if they maybe taped it up at first and this has gone and now it shorting or something.

Anyway, this part I guess is not on its own replaceable, you need to replace the whole diff around $1000. Even the dealership was gutted when they heard and they are trying to find a simpler solution as it is just a broken wire.

Has anyone seen this before, could you help?? Can I drop the diff and maybe try and fix this myself, is there any aftermoarket spare I could use?? Please help it is about to snow here in the coming weeks in WI and with this issue its not going to be fun!!!

Thanks
Luke
Mine came on, I just did a ton of work to this thing. Little research told me it was a wheel bearing. I changed the drivers side rear, definitely bad, and seems to be fine now. Will test drive for a little trip to favorite aunties and see.
