So I have a 2012 Jeep Patriot base model inline 4. The jeep has about 140xxx miles on it. Recently, we replaced my thermostat because there was an over heating issue. After replacing the thermostat, the temp gauge needle still sits a little to the right of the center, but holds steady. However, when I turn my AC on the car starts overheating. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Water pump seems to be find, no leaking.

Secondary thermostat?

Thank you in advance.

The primary thermostat starts to open at 170F. The secondary thermostat starts to open at 203F to allow more fluid to flow through the system. It is wide open at 230F. So, yes, maybe your secondary thermostat is the culprit.

Follow the other's advice also....check the easy things first: radiator fins clean, radiator cap sealing/working correctly, both radiator fans coming on?? Is the fluid flowing in the system: upper radiator hose getting hot? Is there any chance you have air in the system?? Sometimes an air lock can cause overheating. I haven't changed my coolant yet, so I am not up on "burping" the Patriot.
