Greetings! About a week ago I picked up a 2011 Patriot Latitude and am slowly poking around at it, figuring out what to modify and how I want to use it. So far I'm pretty impressed with it. It's one of the elusive 5-speed AWD models, which was the main combination I was looking for when I started car shopping.

I spend a lot of time out in the mountains and exploring forest roads and things like that, so I'm aiming for sort of a light overlanding vehicle—not looking to go rock crawling anytime soon, I just don't really want to have to turn back when the road gets bumpy.

So far I've replaced some light bulbs and wiper blades, ordered some bits to get bluetooth audio working, and started planning the eventual adventure build. More to come soon!

Hi Joel, welcome!

I think you'll find your 5M very capable. The silver Patriot in our the banner is also a 5M. It tackled Medano pass here in Colorado in stock form, and lived to tell the story, which is posted somewhere around here.

Feel free to start a thread in our build section and let us know how the mods are coming along. There's also a section for trail run reports and pics.

Enjoy!

Haha, yeah, I read that story of Medano pass and was pretty impressed... I also read the part where he said "never again, that was insane and damaged the jeep a bit too" :grin2:

This one's most likely going to be my daily driver, so I'll stick to mostly soft-roading. That said, I've spent a number of years wandering the mountains with a '97 Camry and a '98 A4 and getting weird looks from lifted trucks at the tops of things, so my definition of mild roads may be slightly skewed from normal. We'll see how it goes! Regardless, this is quite a few major steps up in terms of off-highway capability than my previous options.

Having had the Jeep for just a week now, the worst road it's seen is an alley with some potholes in a nearby neighborhood. Next weekend I'm heading to the Olympic Peninsula for a proper shakedown.
