My 2007 Compass will quite soon need its alternator pulley replaced. Is there any way I could retrofit a standard non-ratcheting pulley in place of the one that's on there now? Reason I ask this is because I hate my Compass and I'm only going to put the bare minimum into it to keep it going

That ADP is an important item that keeps the wear and tear down on your belt and tensioner, among other things, so what do you think will probably go next right after putting a solid pulley on?

griff - thanks for your helpful comment ;)

if i was in the OP's position, i would sell the Compass - hence my comment, i wouldn't waste any more money on a car i hated. i was giving him option 3, one that perhaps he hadn't thought of - so helpful.... IMO

the fact you don't think it's helpful....i couldn't really give a f*k

Believe me, I've tried selling it. Only serious offers I got were one for 300 bucks If I drove it 40 miles to this guy's house, and another for 90 dollars from a scrapyard. Not much interest in a little CUV like this in which almost nothing works right

I looked into this very same thing when my OAD pulley started going bad. Trying to get dimensions and spacing info without taking the alternator out and measuring my self was a bitch so I just bit the bullet and put a new OAD on it. I think it was $45 from rockauto. Here is the post I made for replacing it.

I have to figure out what happened to my images though...

I watched a few videos on replacing the pulley. Sounds like a mothertrucker getting the alternator out, one video I watched the person said it took him like 5 hours to extricate it! Pulley itself sounds easy enough to do though. I might was to do the oil pressure switch in behind the alternator too when the alternator is out. Oil pressure light has been flickering and making a dinging sound in the dash now for months

In my post, I show a way easier alternate method of removing the alternator. Still a lot of stuff to disconnect, but not near as exact position challenging to get it out.

Hey Infinitrium,

TSB 18-033-06 may relate to your vehicle:

SUBJECT:
Flash: MIL Illumination/Generator Lamp Illumination/Oil Pressure Lamp
Illumination/Driveability Improvements
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control
Module (PCM) and the Transmission Control Module (TCM) with new software and
performing a memory reset to clear the adaptive memory of the PCM.
CAUTION: VEHICLES (PM/MK) EQUIPPED WITH A CVT TRANSMISSION MUST HAVE
THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) CHECKED FOR THE
LATEST SOFTWARE LEVEL WHENEVER THE PCM SOFTWARE IS
UPGRADED. IF NEWER TCM SOFTWARE IS AVAILABLE, IT MUST BE
INSTALLED.
MODELS:
2007 (JS) Sebring
2007 (PM) Caliber
2007 (MK49) Compass
NOTE: This bulletin applies to PM/MK models equipped with a 1.8L, 2.0L or 2.4L
gasoline engine (Sales Code EBA, ECN or ED3) built before October 24, 2006
(MDH 1024XX).
NOTE: This bulletin applies to JS models equipped with a 2.4L (Sales Code ED3)
with the condition of momentary (1 to 2 second) oil indicator lamp
illumination or flicker at idle and was originally addressed with RRT 06-048
Dated October 17, 2006.
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some customers may experience MIL illumination, Intermittent Generator Lamp
Illumination, Momentary (1 to 2 second) Oil indicator lamp illumination/flicker at idle or
momentary delay returning to idle after clutch actuation.
NOTE: Momentary oil lamp illumination at idle is due to oil pressure switch venting.
This will NOT cause engine damage. This condition is most noticeable when
the oil is hot, engine RPM is returned to idle and engine load from the power
steering system is quickly applied.
The technician may find one or more of the following DTC's or Symptoms:
· P0139 - O2 Sensor 1/2 Slow Response.
· P0700 - Transmission Control System (MIL REQUEST). This DTC is logged in PCM
and when TCM is checked, DTC's are not present.
· P063A - Generator Voltage Sense Circuit (Intermittent Generator Lamp Illumination).
· Momentary (1 to 2 second) Oil Indicator Lamp Illumination or Flicker at Idle
· Momentary Delay Returning to Idle when clutch is actuated (Vehicles Equipped with
2.4L Engine and Manual Transmission (Sales Code ED3 and DD7).

Would an alternator from a 2007 Sonata with a 2.4 fit? I'm at the point now that the job plus the parts required is making me consider scrapping the whole thing for whatever I can get for it and buying an old 87 Caravan for 100 bucks that was offered to me

AOD , Mitsubishi Alternator.

Hi infinitrium,
Maybe my reply went somewhere ...........:beerchug:
Listen to todde 702, had the same dilemma, except that in this country Jeep ( Stealers ) only sell the whole Alternator with a new pulley.
Take a Sunday morning, few Frosties, tools and do it step by step, it is not THAT bad.
Direct conversion here, new pulley would be around R 700.00.
Alternator / Pulley was R 6 000.00.
You guys are lucky to be able to get parts easily over there.
After that was all quiet, back to normal.
Do not put a solid pulley on, the belt is too long and vibration would certainly wreck a few other components. Including breaking the Belt.
Good luck, let us know how it goes !! :smiley_thumbs_up:

I guess I'll just keep the wretched thing until either it dies or scrap prices go way back up. I watched a video where the person says it's much easier to remove the AC compressor bracket then remove the alternator. Looks like that'll be the way I'm going to do it. Anyway, would either of these 2 fit my 2007 Compass?

Can't find any alternators around here for less than $150 Canadian

Ok, so I found a used one at a junkyard for 100 bucks..unfortunately it's a 2 hour drive in a borrowed car to pick it up haha. Can I tell if the pulley is any good just by spinning it? I'll check it over before I buy it of course

Hi Infinitrium,
I initially bought a pulley from a breaker yard, looked good, but on running it, did not work, wasted R 250.00, you guys can buy pulleys there over the counter, unlike here, rather buy a New pulley, then you know it will work.
Bitch of a job to do Twice !!!!!!!
Still let us know !!
Cheers, all the best.
