The patriot and compass are probably going to be discontinued in their current form in the next year. The are making a new vehicle in this segment and are supposed to show it off in a little more than a month at the new york auto show.

Anybody want to make some predictions? Price, size, engine/transmission, rwd/fwd, name, mpg, off road equipment, classic/modern looks?

My predictions:
Price will be increase quite a bit, I expect the next C segment vehicle to come in starting at $22k for the base model which will probably only be 2wd. (As I have been saying, buy your patriots while you can because this price won't be around long)
Size will be about the same size of the patriot, I don't think much of this will change.
Engine/Tranny will be a 2.4L Tigershark Engine (180 hp) and a 9 speed auto. It will also mostly be FWD.
I think the off road equipment will be similar to the cherokee. It will have a 2 speed transfer case and locking rear diff. I think it will have more ground clearance than the cherokee and will be easily liftable. It will have independent suspension. Overall I think the new C segment vehicle will be more capable than the cherokee trailhawk.
Name: I think it will be something completely different. It will not be named patriot or compass. I think its mpg will start at 24/31 for 2wd base model and the off road model coming it at 22/28
Style: Unfortunately I think they are going to FIATize it. It will look like just another jellybean on the road like all the other SUVs look like these days.

I really hope that they keep it resembling the Patriot and same general size. That's what drew me to the Patriot in the first place, it has the old Cherokee good looks! :)

Hoping they don't round it out... I was actually looking at Rav 4's as well before buying my Patriot, and I couldn't get over that weird front end. Plus, all the rest of the compact sport utes these days look like someone inflated a hatchback. ;)

They already have the renegade, wrangler, and wrangler unlimited in the classic look. I think they will make the next gen look more like the cherokee

I could have easily driven our 2008 Patriot for another year but I'm glad we traded up for the 2015 Patriot. That 9 speed ZF transmission and general FIAT quality reputation and the jelly bean looks are all big turn/offs for me.

My guess: less space for legs rear seats, rear 5th door inclined (slanted).

If it looks like a grand cherokee I'm OK with that. I actually quite like the look of the updated compass, except the rear end, I don't feel like it fits the front end at all. and I love the look of the grand cherokee, except it is far too far out of my price range. My big issue is the price. I'm sure the trail rated will be between 29 and 30K since that seems to be the price the put for all of them.

If this is the replacement (and several sources say it is) I'd either go with the Renegade, or more seriously seek a mid-sized car. Shame they don't make the Avenger any more. FCA doesn't offer anything like it -- closest is the Chrysler 200 and that sure doesn't turn me on.

Before we got our 2014 Patriot I looked at the Buick Verano and that had too many gadgets. Just show me a good, basic, mid-sized vehicle. Whatever I get, it won't have a touch-screen. lol

Yeah the Avenger/200 were cool cars -- bread and butter 2.4 like the Patriot, reasonably priced.

Maybe check out the Dodge Chargers. Though they are a little spendy -- $29k for the base SE trim with AWD and the Pentastar V6. The higher trims just add BS -- like fancier radios, bigger rims, dashboard insert trim, etc..

Cherokee Active drive 2 drivetrain, but no locker is my prediction for the trail rated model,

Not liftable, expensive and called compass.

If it has a real low range I'll have to get one

Most likely called Compass, will look more like a GC than an XJ.

2.4L and 9 speed or small turbo 4 with manual for non-trailhawk.

For the Trailhawk, no transfer case or dual speed differentials, but lower 1st gear than Renegade, so around 26:1 crawl ratio. Better than Renegade but not as good as a Wrangler or Cherokee. No rear locker, just BLD's. Probably as lift-able as the Renegade, but small wheel wells will limit larger tire size.

Jeep needs to come out with something akin to a 1960's Land Rover Defender or Jeep CJ. Small, simple, real transfer case/lockers front and rear that are manual, small diesel engine. No friggin' Uconnect BS, touchscreens, AC, self parking, power windows. Just crank windows, metal dash, steel rims.

I know metal is more pricey than plastic, but there is still metal under a plastic dashboard. Just leave it flat metal with a little instrument pod for the gauges, and a pod for passenger airbag. And no vinyl door panels. Just leave the bare metal under there. Hell I want to be able to look at the cranking mechanism in case it breaks. :)

I know from a reliable source that the replacement will be called Pampass !
;-)

I'm thinking exactly the same as you. Get a new Patriot now ! I just bought my 3rd one, a 2016 Deep Cherry Red Latitude 4X4 . We only had 34000 miles on our 2012 but with $4600 in rebates that we qualified for it was a no brainer.
You're absolutely right about EVERY other SUV in this size group looks exactly the same. Can't tell a Kia from a Ford. That's what makes a Patriot so great. That extra cargo room is a blessing. 1st thing we did yesterday was to put an older entertainment center in it to move it to our daughters. The Pat gobbled it right up with room to spare. We've moved small freezers, recliners etc in ours easily. Everything fits.

My wife leased a 13 Malibu. What a cluster %$#@ that touch screen is. Just changing the radio to a different source is a nightmare. Another reason I bought the latest Patriot.
