Nel, you will know if yours works if it behaves like the owners manual says. Hold the ESP button for about 10 seconds. If your odometer/trip meter/thermometer change to say ESPOff, then it works. Otherwise, the TSB could be useful for you. If you have never pushed the ESP button before or don't know what it affects, it may not be useful. Most people don't need ESP Off and should not use it.

Got stuck today, couldn't drive over a small snowbank... and it had nothing to do with the clearance. I've put in 4WD LOCK, and still didn't feel that all the wheels were spinning accordingly. I've also deactivated the ESP ...could only put it in Partial Off. My ESP FULL OFF chime & message are missing.

In any case, I now notice that I have the same problem as many Pat owners, with the ESP OFF indicators disfunctioned. I kept on holding the ESP OFF button and nothing happened. So that I will get fixed...

But the question is, just because the CHIME or "ESP FULL OFF" MESSAGE were not working for Patriots built before June '08, does the actual ESP Off Mode still work mechanically? Or is the whole function disabled? ...And only the Partial Off is working at the moment?

well I fixed mine too on Thursday. I went to my dealer and got the update flash for the ESP FULL OFF problem. Since everything is great and I'm happy for that

That was the one thing I always stated Stocky. If you don't get the indicator, you have no idea what state the system is in and that could be very dangerous. It raises a question of confidence in the product. I'm just glad they figured it out and have a fix.

I found on mine that if I press the ESP button once, and the indicator lights up, then I could press and hold it, and the light would go out, but 7s later would come back on. No chime, no ESP OFF message, but the indicator would come back on. Dunno if this meant it was full-off or not, but it was interesting...

Regardless, we're going in to the dealer this morning for the replacement bolts, and this time I'm taking the printed TSB along for the ESP fix (since last time I only sent the reference number along with the wife, and they apparently didn't bother to look it up, just told her it was working properly). I also have the page of the manual bookmarked that details how it's SUPPOSED to work.

This is awesome...

I printed mine out and will get it flashed this week, because I definitely don't get a chime.

Yeah, ended up taking it back to the dealer we bought it from, along with a printout of the TSB, and they fixed it no problem... ESP full-off now works exactly as described in the manual and I can now power my way through remnants of snow piles :)

I took a print of the TSB in and they tried to talk me out of it. But they did it when I pushed them on it. I believe that in at least some configurations, the ESP Full Off includes disabling an ESP feature that limits engine power when some or all of the wheels are spinning. Remember, the throttle on our Pats is electronic, controlled by the computer. Our pushing the "accelerator" pedal is only a "request" or input to the computer, the computer considers "everything", including wheel(s) spinning or not spinning, and then opens the throttle as much as it thinks appropriate.

Just out of curiosity, what argument did they offer to attempt to talk you out of it?

In my case, the one dealership, they just insisted that the ESP button worked the way it was supposed to... nevermind that it doesn't work as specifically described in the manual. Even if it was turning full-off, I had no way to be sure, because I got no chime and no "ESP OFF" display.

When I took it back to my "home" dealership, I told the guy outright, it doesn't operate as described in the manual, and Chrysler has a TSB specifically addressing it. He didn't argue, and he even thanked me when I handed him a printed copy... he perused it briefly, nodded, and then wrote up the work order.

This forum is great, haha, I was just messing around with my ESP the other day and found that it didn't turn fully off like it said in the manual, I'm going to have it checked out this monday for the next appointment. Thanks a bunch eh.

Nate, glad to hear you're finding us useful :) Be sure to print out the relevant TSB and take it with you - my first time asking, I gave them the TSB number but nobody ever bothered looking it up... the next time, I took the printed copy along so they had no excuse!
