As we all have seen on the previous posts, there was a problem with the ESP Full Off mode. Chrysler has FINALLY come up with a flash to fix this

click the following link, print , and bring to the dealership!

http://www.wkjeeps.com/misc/Patriot/TSB/tsb_0500408.pdf

On the TSB, it'll say "NOTE: This bulletin applies to 4x4 vehicles equipped with Electronic Stability Program (sales code BNB) built before June 20, 2008 (MDH 0620XX)."

Mine was built in July 08, but they ran the flash and it fixed my Pat to enable the chime and ESPOFF in the odometer.

All you have to do it put the Pat in neutral, hold ESP OFF for 7-8 seconds, and it'll all work!

If you call your dealership to make an appt to get this done, tell them to look up service bulletin number: 05-004-08.

Thanks to those who found this TSB.

That is awesome that they figured it out. Big thumbs up to the folks that found and posted the TSB too! Now to call my dealer and get an appointment.

wburmil, no this is only for 4x4 models. 4x2 models don't have the full esp off option.

Be sure your dealer has upgraded his toolscan to V. 9.03 as mentioned on TSB. My dealer has to upgrade his equipment before being able to flash my Patriot for ESP full function.

I just did mine today at work. It is an easy procedure to do. It now works as stated in the owner's manual.

I just took the flash instructions to my service department (I work at the dealership) and they flashed the system. I works!!! The funny part is that I had to tell them about it as they didn't know about this situation. Learn new things every day I guess?

Got the flash and now all is as the manual says it should be....here is hoping that it does not screw something else up. Oddly they say they have not had any complaints on this problem there. I know I have asked twice myself before about it. wondering if nobody else around my area noticed the problem. im sure im not the only one that had the issue in the city , there a growing number of patriots now.

I'd be willing to bet few owners will ever discover there is a problem. Just us car nuts that read the manual and insist that the car works exactly as it is supposed to. Instead they will find themselves in deep snow or loose sand and just get mad. Then they will shoot off their mouths about what a lousy car the Jeep Patriot is.

I'm guessing the people that buy Jeep Patriots and use the ESP button are rare, and the people that want to hold down the ESP button for 10 seconds to disable it are rarer still.
How many Patriot owners in the wild even drive gravel, much less off road?

I take mine off road all the time here in Idaho. I like the ESP Full Off feature. When you are going up a steep hill, and the wheels start to lose traction, ESP kicks in and cuts power to those wheels, which makes it almost impossible to get up the hill.

YOU DON'T NEED FULL OFF MODE TO PREVENT ENGINE TORQUE REDUCTION!!!!

Read the owners manual as it clearly states...

Owners Manual said:
PARTIAL ESP
This mode is entered by momentarily depressing the “ESP Control Switch”. When in “Partial Off” mode, the TCS portion of ESP, except for the “limited slip” feature described in the TCS section, has been disabled and the “ESP/TCS Indicator Light” will be illuminated. All other stability features of ESP function normally, with the exception of engine power reduction. This mode is intended to be used if the vehicle is in deep snow, sand or gravel conditions and more wheel spin than ESP would normally allow is required to gain traction.

In the Partial ESP mode, the engine torque reduction and stability features are desensitized. Therefore, the enhanced vehicle stability offered by ESP is unavailable.

NOTE: To improve the vehicle’s traction when driving with snow chains, or starting off in deep snow, sand or gravel, it may be desirable to switch to the “Partial Off” mode by pressing the ESP switch. Once the situation requiring ESP to be switched to the “Partial Off” mode is overcome, turn ESP back on by momentarily depressing the “ESP Control Switch”. This may be done while the vehicle is in motion.
And this applies and can be useful for 2WD Patriots as well.

ESP full off disables the stability control portion that correlates steering wheel angle to yaw rate and lateral acceleration. Basically, if you want to slide or drift the car, use full off. Otherwise, partial is all most people need for on and off-road driving.

The TSB, #05-004-08, states that it affects all 4X4 MKs (Patriot and Compass) equipped with ESP, built before June 20th, 2008.

My Dealership went ahead and did it without me having to try and prove it to them. I told them the issue, and they searched it out and found the TSB. Now if they would stop making excuses why they aren't fixing the knock in my front end :| Brought it in twice for it, both times nothing fixed. The Gas Evap Canister is toast on it, so they ordered it, will be bringing my knock problem to the attention of the service manager.
