finally tired of not being able to pass someone who is about to block me in on the highway... from my research it looks like any performance mods are severely limited by the jeep ecu. as of 2 years ago it looked like no one had developed a cost-effective tuner for these engines. is this still the case?

I've looked into an intake and exhaust only to come to the conclusion that they will not change much due to the factory ecu. maybe with a good tune this would be enough of a power increase for me.

if not, srt4 turbo swap has given me some interesting ideas, but would still run into the same problem of not being able to tune it unless we swapped in the srt4 pcm. so back to square one... any good tuners or programmers or recommended shops in the northeast??

thanks guys

PS: i'm not looking for a $50 fix... A few hundred for a good tune would be worth it to me

There are non, and probably wont be any for the Patriot because in order to even read the computer, you need an activated StarScan-tool which cost upwards of $1300-2K and only authorized Chrysler dealerships can activate them. I read a thread online about a guy who owned a repair shop, and bought one. Went to activate it and admitted he was not Chrysler certified and they locked his tool out. He now has a $2,000 paperweight. It's BS, but it's a good way to ensure their vehicles will make it back to the dealers, not a local repair shop. That being said, nobody has really been able to reprogram them. I have toyed with the idea of using a Caliber 2.4 FWD computer if you have a 2.4 fwd. I imagine a cali computer in a 4x4 would cause issues...

a few years back a few members sent their pcm's out to b&g performance, does anyone have more info on this?

There is a thread called "fastest patriot in north america" where he claims he was successful in getting a cracked pcm

update: B&G performance says they can and will do a PCM re-flash for me. Awesome!!
I just read the entire thread spacepoliceman made. Makes me very excited. I hate how sluggish these are, and if I can shave about 2 seconds off a 0-60, I would be very happy (plus i'm running 1" smaller tires). I will look into getting a jy pcm and having B&G tune it :D

I sent them a pcm once, never got it back. Here's the story:

If you can get them to do it.

When I first talked to them back in March, I was quoted $350 for the tune. They told me since these are "one-off" tunes they would do them as time allows. When the tune was complete, they would call me to take care of the payment and shipping info. I didn't really like the idea of not having a time line but went ahead and sent them a PCM.

I would call every two weeks or so and they would tell me they were booked with work and hadn't gotten to it yet. Now the last time I called (about 2 weeks ago) they told me they did the tune and shipped it, which is interesting since I hadn't paid them for it.

Since I hadn't received it, I asked where they shipped it but they couldn't tell me. They said they would look into it and told me to call back the next day.

When I called back, they still hadn't figured it out and told me they would call me back.

Haven't heard from them since.
I finally gave up, $100 + shipping for the PCM down the tubes. Maybe things will be different now that B&G has merged with another company.

I must have missed this. It's pretty bad that they went through all that. Some companies just aren't prepared for "little" things.

You didn't miss it, it's just been a while.

B&G was a very, very small company. I traded emails with Spacepoliceman when he went through this, and he had a hard time getting his tune done in a timely manner. We both came to the conclusion that D@ve K@sper, the engineer/owner, was basically the only guy in the shop. If he was that busy (and we both doubted he was), he should have refused the work or hired some help.

I know Arrington is now involved with B&G, but based on past experience I'd be leery of trying it again, for the simple fact that it's still a one-off tune and not likely of much interest to them. My guess is it would be a low priority bench-only tune; no dyno testing and little future support.

Personally, I'd rather invest in a real tuner that can swap flashes, allow parameter changes, and be able to download updates.

If anyone is interested log on and let them know. They've done a tune for the SRT4 Caliber, so if enough people ask they might do one for the MK too.

Can't find it on Banks site, probably an older model.

But according to this site, the Patriot isn't listed as having support: http://uk15.myserverhosts.com/~goto...010.jeep.wrangler.banks.automind.programmer.66120.banks.automind.programmer.bmk

"66120 Banks AutoMind Programmer fits: 1997-2010 Jeep Cherokee, 1997-2010 Jeep Commander, 1997-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 1997-2010 Jeep Wrangler. "

Would be nice if it did, though.

Sorry to hear about your experience Sandstone. I'll definitely keep my expectations in check, not going to lie I was pretty stoked when I got a yes from them. My plan is to find a dyno in my area and tune the jeep stock. then tune it again with intake and exhaust. when I get those numbers, send a pcm to b&g with the results and hope they send me a pcm.

The way it sounds I wouldn't be surprised if they send it back stock and hope you don't notice...
Funny you should mention it. Spacepoliceman pulled the PCM from his Patriot and parked it until he got the PCM back. I could be wrong, but I don't think he did a before/after dyno, soooo.....yeah. Without a before/after there's really no way to tell if the code was ever changed

The other thing I'd be worried about is using my rig as a guinea pig for a one of a kind untested bench tune. If something breaks (like the CVT) I seriously doubt they'd cover it, and of course the warranty would be voided.

I wonder if you could build a system to intercept the signals from a stock pcm and retransmit the signals we want modified.
I think that's what Volo tries to do. http://voloperformance.com/

Earthworm51 has/had one, maybe he can add a few words.
