Hands down, the worst tire Ive ever owned. Dry traction? Terrible Wet traction? Non-existent Snow and Ice? Dont even think about it. Treadwear? What a JOKE. If you have a family and youre concerned about their safety, DO NOT buy this tire, or if you already own it, GET RID of it.

These tires are junk! They are worn out after only 21000k. They are terrible on wet surfaces, no traction at all. Im not happy to have to shell out money to buy 4 of these large size hides at such low milage. The only virtue with them is quiet operation on dry pavement. No more Goodyear tires for me. Like they say "good for one year" Im looking at Bridgestone Revos or Michilen Cross Terrain for replacements.

 

I had bought a new car in 2004, I had to get rid of the tires on it, I couldn't drive in the rain over 50 mph. I went and had my hubby put aqua tread tires. It was so much better. If mine comes with the above mentioned tires I ummm may be ditching tires. I'm still paying for the tires and wheels for hubby's Nissan.

 

My mom had them on her Liberty and they lasted a good 70k but they needed to be replaced around 60k. They started making a loud humming noise when they started wearing, too. There weren't any alignment or suspension issues, either, it was definitely the tires.

 

I always take internet reviews with a grain of salt, since it seems like more times than not, it's people who have problems who post complaints. If someone doesn't have any trouble, they usually don't bother. So it can be weighted too far to the negative.

If the tires last 30,000 miles, I'll be happy... that's been my experience with tire wear on new cars in the past. I just don't want to go out on these new tires and start slipping everywhere, or hydroplaning, just because of a little rain. I just can't imaging they're as unsafe as these reviewers say they are.

 

I think if they were totally unsafe and not worthy for the roads then you'd be seeing another Firestone tire fiasco.

 

I have the Wrangler SR-A tires on my Pat. I cannot say how good/bad they are because I haven't had them quite a month yet and they were wet only once. OEM tires are rarely top of the line.

As for the one reviewer who indicated the tires are lousy in ice and snow, we have no idea how good and diligent the driver actually is. Some guys think that if it's an SUV they can drive like it's a summer day, that it will stick to ice and snow -- um, NO!

If I have problems with my SA's this group will be the first to know.

What is worrisome is these are Goodyear. My old Bonneville SSE had Goodyear Eagles. Really stuck well but had a really short life - really short - every 2 years. Only tire worse than Goodyear is Firestone. I can tell you horror stories with Firestones. Well my buddy can. He walked away from a crash caused by a failed Firestone. His 1973 Corvette did not survive.

 

I THINK I AM GOING TO GO TO THE DEALER SOON, BECAUSE I ONLY HAVE LIKE 3300 MILE ON IT AND I AM GETTING A LOT OF ROAD NOISE FROM THE TIRES!!

 

I've experienced no traction problems driving at highway speeds in the rain. I'm curious to see how they'll do in the snow this winter.

 

My mom had firestones on her Taurus and when all that was going on with the firestone tires, even though she had a car we went and put different tires on the car. She didn't want to risk it.

 

My Patriot has yet to experience rain and may never see snow, but we took it on a back road with packed dirt and some areas of loose sand and the tires/4x2 did well. Maybe someone who has some miles on the tires (2000+) can report after their next rainstorm...

 

Mine came with the stock Firestones, so I immediately replaced them with an excellent set of Michelin HydroEdge tires.

The tires that come with the Jeep (or any other new vehicle for that matter) are usually just put on there for the sake of having tires, so I much prefer a quality set of tires like the HydroEdge. (plus I got $200 off the purchase of them for trading in the Firestones. )

 

The SR-A's are not a good tire at all. Remove and replace ASAP

 

The Michelin Hydro Edges seem to have a real good rep and come in the 215/65R17 size. My question is this... I will be ordering an 08 with the tire & wheel package, do you know if I could ask for the Michelins and pay the difference? Do dealers do this? I would rather get them installed by the dealer and have the cost included rather than buy the car, then find a tire dealer. Any advice here?

Update: I went to the Tire Rack online and actually read the reviews of the Goodyear Wrangler SR-A tires. There were enough good reviews of the tire to give me the impression that the tire was worthy of trying out. I'll still inquire about the Michelins, but I'm willing to go with the Goodyears if changing the tire to Michelin is a hassle.

 

The SR-As aren't the best tire in the world, but they aren't the worse either. I was going to replace them but I figured I already paid for them so I might as well use them, and when I looked around no companies made a 215/65R17 all-terrain style tire to replace them with.

I visited my dealer today and discussed. He said he could contact his tire supplier and work a trade between the Wrangler and the Michelin and I could pay the difference. That sounds fine, but I just may take it with the Goodyear tires and see how they work out for me. In any case he had a delivery of 08's yesterday and I took a look at them. He had silver, steel blue, and black, but no red. I advised him that the packages he configured were fine and I was hoping he could get me a red one. He's going to do some computer searching and see if he can locate an autostick 08 for me. If he can, I could be buying my car in a week or two. If he can't, I'll order a red and just have to wait for it. That Inferno Red is a beautiful color!

 

Do you really think either Jeep or Goodyear would be using sub-standard tires after the Ford Firestone mess?

 

Did you think that in the 21st Century we would be worrying about companies using lead paint for children's toys after knowing about the danger for decades?? Bottom line = $$ no matter how good the company. (I'm not disparaging Jeep, but I know I have hated the Wranglers on my Cherokee for years now. I never felt they could keep up with the power of the 4.0 engine in any weather plus they're noisy)

 

For what it's worth. On my second day of Patriot ownership I replaced my wheels and tires. I replaced the stock 16" steel wheels with 16" alloys and 215 70 R16 Michelin LTX M/S. I do live in Colorado and will be using my Patriot mostly for snowboarding. (I do have a motorcycle for summer.)

Anyway - I love these michelins.

 

Wrangler Tires

OK guys--and gals. With over 253,000 miles driving on Wrangler Tires--the RT/S that are OME to my XJ, they are the best type of tire for MY style of driving. I have never had any problems with hydroplaning during rain, nor do the tires break loose during NORMAL takeoffs. They have been excellent tires for me. I drive thru one of the worst areas in the country for lake effect snow--the South Bend, IN area and they have never failed me.

253,000 miles on 4 sets of tires. You do the math as to the milage these tires bring to the table. As a matter of fact, I just replaced the Wrangler ST tires on my wife's WJ with a set of RT/S tires.

When I hear someone bashing a tire, I just think to myself that they haven't found the correct style of tire for their particular way of driving.

 

Just one thing will make tires perform well. A tire must be inflated correctly; every 10 degrees F changes air pressure 1 PSI.(read that somewhere) Pressure must be check when cold. Only tire problems I have ever had in 25+ years of driving 30,000 miles per year were caused by foreign objects. Invest in a premium tire gage and save yourself time and money.
Tires also oxidize (weather check) any cracks in the sidewall and replace that puppy. I ride a motorcycle also and with only two tires between me and the road I inspect my tires every time I ride and at least every couple of days on the Jeep and more often when the temperature changes widely.
As we on two wheels like to say "Keep the Rubber Side Down".

And yes manufacturers sometime screw up.

Having the discipline to get the tires rotated every 6,000 miles or so will do wonders for a tire's performance.

Also, I keep the tires relatively clean and do Armor-All them throughout the year.

 

Check out the Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor tires. I am running them on both my Commander and my lifted Cherokee. They work great on-road and off-road... on dry pavement, rain, and in snow.

You should expect better performance from a more expensive tire.

 

Most Liberties came with SR-As and we all try to get rid of them ASAP. They are very thin walled (easy flats) and have terrible wet traction. They have got to be the worst big name tire I have ever owned. Once you move up to Silent Armor Goodyears, you can tell the big differences. I would never buy the SR-As

I don't have the statistics in front of me, but I highly doubt that ALL Liberty owners ". . . try to get rid of them ASAP". Maybe in your club that is the case, but the average Joe just doesn't go out and buy new tires.

While I don't use SR-A tires, I am sure they are adequate tires for the average driver, who MIGHT do mild off-roading. BTW, that is the type of off-roading they were designed for--not for being an off-road warrior.

The key: Use the tire for what it was designed for, or buy a different tire.

I had to order my Patriot today as they could not find what I wanted. My dealer DID check with his supplier and the Michelin's have not been made in the 215/65-17 size yet. They may be available by the time the car is built, but not right now. If you were going to replace the Goodyear Wrangler tires, what brand and model would you suggest (the "you" is anybody).

 

Which model of Michelin? I got a set of Michelin HyrdoEdge's put on a few days after I got my Patriot in the 215/65-17 size.
