The 1960 Dodge was arguably one of the best styled cars ever built!

I suppose the next big thing in tires will be retro-whitewalls. That guy was just ahead of the curve!

I've always wondered why they haven't come out with color coordinated stripes on tires: red stripes for a red vehicle, blue stripes for a blue vehicle, etc. They had red stripes for a while back around 1970, maybe?

I admit I wouldn't mind trying whitewalls on mine, but for now it's way out of my budget.

 

I think the old wide whitewalls would look good on a dark colored car, regardless of the make....but then, I grew up with them...

OK, I admit they were around when I was a kid. Pretty well done by 1960?

 

Yeah, they kinda disappeared with the rounded fenders and the dawn of the American muscle car.

 

Wide white walls went well with tail fins.

 

I remember through the 1970's and maybe early 80's, thin whitewall tires were popular and a status symbol suggesting "better quality" tires. Then, as they started losing popularity, the tire shops would ask if you wanted the whitewalls "in or out".

 

I don't have a photo, but there were some with triple narrow stripes, I remember them with red stripes, too. Probably 1970ish.
