My 2007 patriot limited 4x4 just hit 10,000 miles. I noticed yesterday when I started driving water was leaking from the controls in the dome light. It had been raining the night before. There was a small amount of water in the dome light. It seemed to leak more everytime I stopped. It was a small amount of water and amazingly none of the controls are affected. eventually the water emptied out. I don't have any water stains on the interior roof. I guess I'll have to wait till it rains again to see if the problem replicates itself. Any suggestions?

Don't forget that Edsels are now collectors items! All kidding aside, I am sorry to hear about this problem with your Pat. Something is going on here that Chrysler/Jeep needs to address pronto.

I do have a sunroof. I've examined the sunroof and there does'nt appear to be any areas were a seal is broken. It was a very small leak. Theres a small hole on either side of the sunroof basin were a wire connects to the sunroof controls. When the sunroof opens and closes theres a plastic wedge with a gasket which seals it. I imagine this is were the water is entering. It must be a small break in the seal because most of the basin is dry and dusty. At first I thought maybe the water was condensation or the there was a break in the windshield seal. This was the primary reason for me posting. I was hoping maybe someone experienced this already and I could go to the dealer with some information. Every time something is wrong people take there cars to the dealer expecting a magic fix. The dealer didn't build this car so there going to waste alot of time and my money trying to figure out what is wrong with the design. It would be nice to speed up the process with some direction instead of useless advice Mr "we can't fix your car take it to the dealer". Thanks for the great advice. I work everyday and don't have the time to blindly go to the dealer 10 times because they have no idea whats wrong with my car. It's rained lightly the past few days and no leak. Prior to the leak I went to the car wash and the next day it rained. I'll keep examining the sunroof and see if it happens again.

Mine did the same thing, leaking through the dome light for the first time yesterday. I have a sunroof and have not had an issue with rain or in the carwash yet.
But yesterday was warmer than it's been in a while, there wasn't any real snow on my roof and that's why it surprised me. I guess some melted and came in through the roof by the sunroof. I just leaked once and that was it.
I'll have to call the dealer and set up an appointment to get this addressed.
I think I'll wait seeing as it's now about 25 degrees colder today and snowing like a b.....

I hope nothing too nasty happens. It was only one small leak but it surprised me. I'm just surprised I didn't seen anything until now, like I said, it's been through some good rains and the carwash many times and this is the first I've seen....

Toronto does the freeze-thaw-freeze-thaw thing too and I put my car through the carwash as well -- so far so good leakwise. If water gets clogged in the drainage tube and it freezes, I guess I am concerned the tube could be damaged and then you're in a real pickle.

Seems like someone here had this problem with their cargo light. Something about a missing/faulty seal possibly combined with water leaking in through the rails on the roof.

I'd definitely get the seal checked.

Others have had sunroof leakage problems.

I wonder if your dome light leakage could be a combination of the two?

We had a couple of days of rain last week, and I made a point of checking my sunroof and cargo light every time I was in the vehicle. (Easy to do, since my dog's access is through the back hatch area and she is in the Jeep almost every day.) I didn't see any problems with mine, but plan to keep checking just in case. In the meantime, I've bookmarked this thread so that I'll have that form if I discover any leakage issues and can hopefully save the guys at the dealership some headscratching. :)

PS - I'm at work and don't have time to do a search right now...but one of the people that had issues with their cargo light leaking posted pics. Can anyone locate that thread? Might be helpful for this person...

this problem can happen at any time... my sunroof didn't leak right off the bat either. I noticed a couple sprinkles in the carwash one time, but didnt think much as it was a high powered carwash. It was also in rain storms before I noticed any leaking.

Then a few weeks later, it rained and water poured through my front domelight. I had to take my Jeep to the dealer a few times before they found out the problem. I still have a problem with my seals leaking, but apparently they are supposed to LMAO... and well they fixed the drain tubes which were kinked. I would get those checked out because even if the seal is leaking, which I'm told its supposed to but thats a different story, then the water should channel through the drain tubes at least and not collect in the headliner, where it leaks through the domelight. So yeah you have to go to the dealer and make sure they check your drain tubes!!! They ordered new seals on mine and the seals still leak so I'm giving up!!

Lesson learned, dont get the sunroof, way too many issues on here with them, and those without issues now, will probably have them later.

Just experiences this exact same problem today...front map light area.
It was warm and raining here in Ottawa, but there was no snow on my Partiot for days. ??

So far my headliner hasn't been affected. Has anyone's gotten wet and stained?

This friggin' sucks!

Well this has finally happened to the misses... Water is leaking through her dome light in the cargo area. Does anyone know if Jeep is going to correct this or has there not been enough complaints to warrant a Jeep mandated fix? This sucks because this is her first jeep and I don't want this to ruin Jeeps for her. Also we don't have a sunroof so I don't know what's up... The jeep is scheduled for a check up tomorrow.

Started up the Jeep this morning, went around a corner and out of nowhere my radio, A/C controls and gear shift area just got dumped with water. It came through the front dome light as well, and most of the water dumped out through a gap in-between the sunroof controls and the rest of the dome light clear plastic casing. I have an appointment for next Wednesday so hopefully they can get something sorted out. That wasn't a terribly pleasant surprise for me today, especially in quite cold weather...

So far, has anyone gotten a wet headliner? Mine sayed dry thankfully.
I worry that if it does get wet, that it will stain. Sure they can try to clean it, but I worry that it wouldn't be perfect. Even replacing the headliner leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Have an appointment with dealer this week.

So Jeep called last night telling us that the jeep was ready... Seems our leak was caused by pine needles... We have several large pine trees in the front yard and it appears that that Patriot likes to collect and store them. I'm not sure that I buy this explanation but they cleaned and detailed the inside free of charge to get the damp smell out. It's been raining pretty hard all night and no signs of a leak yet so I will keep everyone posted whether or not the leak comes back.

The fact that this is my 2nd time having my Jeep back kind of makes me buy this explanation. It's a poorly engineered design that doesnt let water and debris escape properly and when it clogs up, the water has nowhere else to go but inside the car. I've been pretty calm about it because I know these problems happen to a lot of vehicles with sunroofs, but if it continues I will be asking for a replacement.

Jeepnik, Where did those pine needles collect, do you know? Do you have a sunroof? I'm really interested in learning as much about these problems as possible. I don't have a sunroof, but other folks without sunroofs have had leak problems.

It's Baaaaccckkk

Well it's morning two of constant rain and guess what the leak is back... So the Stealership is ordering new seals hopefully this will correct the problem. But the best part about that is the seals won't be her for a week. :(

Jhonda to answer your question the needles where collecting in the grove above the back hatch and down the sides of the hatch and I don't have a sunroof. Hopefully they can get this fixed because it's not going to stop raining here anytime soon.

The big majority of owners do not have a problem, so the odds are with you. It is frustrating but its still better to be informed than to be taken by surprise by a big problem that could have been fixed early on. Hopefully Jeep will have a handle on the situation and have TSBs and fixes that will make everyone feel confident. This leads to the difficulty of designing such a vehicle - it needs to be fairly water tight down low and underneath for fording streams and such, which in turn makes drainage more complicated.

I just noticed water dripping from my dome light a few minutes ago- first time with this problem- Jeep is 3 months old. Not as lot of water but enough to drip down. The temperature yesterday was -25 and I had a lot of snow on the roof. I do not have a sunroof.

Today is about -2 so the quick temperature change may have had some effect on the problem but it was more than just condensation. I will be bringing it to dealer and will post results when available.

Sunroof leaking normal?

Just got my '07 Pat a few weeks ago and had a heavy rain over the weekend. I went out to move the car into the garage and noticed water dripping from all 4 corners of the sunroof. Nothing has entered the vehicle - yet.

I took it by a carwash yesterday and barely sprayed the roof and when I got in to leave the right front corner was dripping again. Nothing in the car but the dripping really bothers me.

Took it to the dealer - they called today and said that it is "normal" for the sunroof to leak and that is why the channels and drains are there. Sounds like BS to me...opinions?

Thanks,

Shawn
