Found this link to check for software updates for your Uconnect radio. Showed an update for my 2016 that I downloaded but haven't installed yet. Instructions can also be found at https://www.allpar.com/corporate/tech/firmware-updates.html

Since I an still under the 3/36 warranty I expected the dealer would do this update, wrong, their response "We don't do that".

The instructions say unzip the files you down load to a thumb drive, I don't have a thumb drive handy so I wonder if it would read them off of a CD?

Hi kjfishman,

The dealership should be offering to perform this update for you, and at no charge since you are still within your basic warranty.

If it is easier, however, to perform the update at home, we do recommend using a new USB stick for the download. It should be formatted with no files on it prior to downloading the two for the Uconnect update.

Quick question.

On a number of howto's, it's mentioned that the end user needs the "radio anti-theft code".

What happens if we/I do not have said code and try to run the update?

My dealer claims to need the serial number off of the radio, which is on the rear. Meaning at least 1 hour labour to pull radio out to get the code.

If people have updated with out code, then I can update the radio, otherwise this kind of a bad deal

I've tried everything I can think of to update mine, using what directions are available. The link I go to on the official UConnect site for the updating procedure PDF - after I download the update directly to a computer - is broken, and the directions from other sources have not worked at all, so I'm at the end of my rope, as I keep getting no recognition from the unit that the update file is on any of the USB flash drives I've tried. My only recourse is to take it into the dealership and they will likely charge me a significant amount of money to install a simple update, assuming any of them actually know how to do it.

Okay, I figured it out for my 430N. Here's what ya do...

1. Download the update ZIP DIRECTLY from the UConnect website. Do not do the Akamai NetSession crap, as it doesn't work anymore and Chrysler hasn't bothered to fix it.

2. Extract the uconnect.upn update file to an empty FAT32 USB flash drive. If you have one that you used for transferring MP3 files to the unit, wipe it and use that.

3. Plug USB drive into the system USB port. Those of you with the Remote USB port, must use that, as the front USB port is not recognized. I'm not sure what to do on units without the RUSBP.

4. Turn key to On/Run. Either will apparently work, but you need to not be running anything in the car that would suck juice from the battery, just in case your update procedure requires a significant amount of time.

5. Hit the Phone button on the unit, wait for it to acknowledge that it is ready for a command, and shout "SYSTEM SOFTWARE UPDATE!" You may also add "By the power of Greyskull!", if it pleases you, but don't expect the system to recognize your command if you do.

6. Sit on your ass for about half a minute or more as the unit updates itself. When the update process is done, the unit will probably just go back to a normal operation screen, as if nothing happened.

7. Repeat as needed, depending on the age of your unit and the number of required updates.

8. Check the System Info before and after to ensure that the update has been applied. Photograph it with your phone before you perform the update to compare the software versions to what is given after the system update screen goes away.

Alright, I found the info for those that have hands-free without the RUSBP in the glove box or console. To keep it short, just take into the dealership. They will have to access the HFM (Hands-Free Module), which has an old-school USB port on the back for a USB adapter cable, to perform updates. Those of you without the RUSBP, I suggest you get it installed by a dealership or third-party, if you feel so inclined.

Yabba-Dabba-Doo, so say we all.

No RSC was needed. I think the RSC is only needed for some models and if the unit was not originally installed in the vehicle at the factory. There is a lot of conflicting information out there about the various UConnect units and what is what and Chrysler doesn't really make it any easier by having broken support websites for customers to reference. Digging up the leaked internal Chrysler documents that are available to dealership techs is the only reliable source of information and you can find those if you know where to look.

My Jeep Patriot required this update because at inspection my car was rejected multiple times do to this update..

I'm very unsure on how to update my 2014 Jeep Patriot because when the downloaded file was inserted onto a USB and plugged into the connector inside of the glove compartment I still received issues.

I think the reason why there are so many different and conflicting tales about how to update the various UConnect units is because there are in fact several variants of each particular model and to add to that, hardware and software changes between those, depending on the manufacturing run/lot. I was going through the service bulletin for the update I installed and it had a bit of blah blah that points to that being the case and that certain ones didn't need the update installed.

Any updates? I am amazed there are dozens of others out there across all the FCA car sites using uConnect that all have the same issue and nearly every one gets stumped by this. I consider it fraud. They said the system was "user updateable", but then there are so many instances on these multiple forums where it isn't possible by uConnect's own admission. It isn't a warranty issue where the functionality 'broke', it was never competently functional for so many of us!!

Just swapped out my stock Sirius RES head unit with RHB 430N MyGig unit. Swap was simple and unit is fully functional, except that now my UConnect is outdated in that it does not support voice navigation. When I go to the UConnect and input my VIN, indicates my software is up to date--assuming they match the VIN to the installed equipment and based on that-no update needed. Now I'm trying to figure out how I can update my uconnect software? Anyone know a fix? Thanks!
