Thermostat gauge past center at highway speeds

My Patriot has been running a bit above middle when at high speeds on the highway (70-80 mph) just did my plugs and it seemed to bring it a smidge more close to center but I feel like it use to run below center at those highway speeds.

I checked the ALLDATA diagnostic data and it sounded like when the thermostat is stuck closed there is no code thrown and you diagnose based on the gauge.

I’m going to be moving to a new state this Saturday and the last thing I want to deal with is an overheat situation while on the way. Given the short time I have to do the repair I’m stuck using either Duralast or car quest. Does anyone have a recommendation between these two brands? And do you think this is necessary/ my diagnosis correct?

I used the carquest brand when I did mine, mostly because advance auto also had the housing gaskets in stock too. You'll want the housing gasket, felpro 35826 and the water pipe o-ring, felpro es-72872. The water pipe oring is a two pack but you only need one. Haven't had any issues so far.

The thermostats each come with their own gaskets already attached and the larger (in size) 173 deg stat goes into the outlet housing. So the two stats and the two felpro gaskets I mentioned make up all the seals you'll need to do the job.

All parts sites I've ever looked at list two different parts for the 2.0L and 2.4L (and probably the Dodge Caliber 1.8L as well since it is the same GEMA based engine). The mopar part numbers are: 55111017AD for the 203 deg. secondary stat and 55111016AE for the 173 deg. main stat. Besides being different temperatures, they are also different in size, diameter and appearance. The part number they state would not be big enough to seal the main outlet.

I should add that the only change I'm aware of where the thermostats are concerned are actually with the housing itself. They changed the heater hose sizes on 2009 and newer models, so if you have a 07-08 and are going to replace the entire housing, you need to also buy the 09 and up heater hoses.
