Does anyone have the tech specs on the RES radio? Wattage? I am contemplating starting a new audio setup. But I do not want to get a new head unit just yet. I will be starting with a woofer/tweeter combo, amp, mid or full ranges speakers in the rear, plus a sub. If I could get away with using the amp to power the the 4 speakers and tweeters, while powering the small sub with the factory stereo I would.

Hmm...Thanks. Thats pretty low, looks like I am better off with an aftermarket head unit.

Well I've read how much people love the boston set. But I think my budget will serve me better to buy all the pieces and put it together myself. I read in the knowledge base thread that some were spending up to $900 on the BA system. I do not know if that includes an upgraded HU. I will be getting a new head unit, better 6x9s for the rear and 5.25 inch woofers and tweeters in front. An amp to power the speakers and I may get a small sub and use the HU to power it. However, I think the 6x9s will provide enough thump...maybe;).

Although, do you know where they place the tweeters for the BA system?

Yeah, I noticed little vents, But I don't think thats where the tweeters would be mounted because it looks as though, they are for air circulation. I have found a good spot on the door panel to install my tweeters(I think). I will start a new thread and post pics when I get my setup!

the tweeters are on the dashboard, but you have to disassemble everything to get to it. i would go with a new deck, the speakers your talking about sound good but i would run a 5 channel amp the 4 for the doors, and the fifth for a sub. i think this would be the biggest bang for your buck.

I looked at the Alpine PDX-5. And I may get the Alpine amp at some point. It looks really nice. And I have always thought of Alpine as a good value in car audio. For now, I have decided on Infinity speakers- these and these.

I am gonna wait on a sub for now and see if I really want it(which I will:D).

According to Crutchfield.com those infinities work well even with a factory HU. But I decided on an aftermarket unit here

I have the RES head unit with the BA system and it sounds great. It will thump the door speakers enough to shake the mirrors. IMHO, it you put much more power into the Patriot you are just going to distort the sound with rattles from the roof and door sheet metal.
Well the BA system has an external amp I think. Soit gives those BA speakers the extra boost they need.

I have the ba system and the door speakers are rated for much more than the 46 watts they are receiving. I would say get a new head unit that puts out more power and line the inside of the doors with speaker foam. They sell it specifically for car doors and it works very nice it makes the sound much more crisp and keeps some air from escaping which allows for even more power to be put through the speakers. They shouldn't distort if they do it's probably the mesh they put on over the speakers for protection. If you don't worry about that you can remove them. Basically try to seal the doors as much as possible and then you can put more power through the speakers and run some rca's to an aftermarket amp to power some subs. That's what I did and it's the loudest car I've ever been in as well as highest sound quality.

I've been where you are right now. Buy a 4 channel amp, you dont need anything special, just make sure it has line input, not just rca input. This is what I did, and you may not want to, but I cut the stock wires going from the stereo to the speakers right at the dash. I crimped male spades on the stereo side of the wires, and female spades on the speaker side of the wires, so I could hook them back up to stock if needed. Then I ran wires from the stereo→to the amp, from the amp→to the speaker wires. This way I had 4 amplified speakers while using the stock REF radio. I even ran the pre-amp output from my 4-channel to my monoblock to power my subs. Even after I got a new head unit, I still use the stock wires for the speakers. Until I get some 6.25" RockFos midrange woofers, I am keeping the stock wires since they handle the LOUD volume just fine. As for the tweets, grab some 1" tweeters, and install them in the cardboard covers in the dash tweeter mounts (you will see what I am talking about), then tap into the front speakers to power them. It is a day/night difference, even with aftermarket speakers. To access the tweeter mounts on 08/07 models, take the 1 screw out of the A-pillar, and pull up/out to remove, then grab the side of the tweeter vent, and un-snap it all the way across the dash. Most of the interior in these vehicles are snapped together.
