Hello -

Purchased a 2015 High Alt. Edition in August.
Already nearly 8000 miles - love the vehicle.

So the model we selected only came stock with the OEM Speakers/Stereo. I had my heart set on the Sun/Sound edition with the 9-speaker B.A. configuration, but alas we opted for other features instead.

About a month ago I did some research (primarily on this forum) to see what I could do to get some better sound, and as a first step I decided to upgrade all 4 speakers to the Rockford Fosgate R169X3 model.

This upgrade was a dramatic improvement in overall sound - crisper and clearer audio, with tighter bass frequencies. However, 1 major issue I experience with nearly all music is sibilance as well as general harshness in cymbal crashes. On some recordings if I turn the volume above 20-25 the cymbals and vocal sibilance can be incredibly unbearable... as you know, 20-25 isn't all that loud. I find that if I use the built in EQ (Bass, Mid, Treble) adjustment and I knock the Treble between -7 and -9 it helps a lot... but unfortunately the music ends up sounding a lot muddier.

Anyone else with the OEM stereo setup and RF speakers experience this? Is there more I can do to improve my listening experience? I travel/commute A LOT and having good clear audio is important to me. Due to being on a budget I do not necessarily have all the resources available to throw hundreds or thousands of dollars into my system... but as long as I can get it to a point where the music sounds acceptable and the harshness/sibilance is minimal I will be happy. Anyone out there have any tips on how to get better sound through my R169X3's?

Thank you.

Thanks for the tip Moparnumber1.
I suspected it had to do with the other components and not the RF speakers themselves. I'm definitely interested in upgrading everything, but it will be a process over the course of several months only because upgrading it all at once will be too much of an expense. I knew the OEM radio/speakers were going to be average at best, but I didn't realize they would be this poor.

Now that the speakers are comfortably installed and functioning good I think my next upgrade will be the in-dash radio. After that, I'll look in to an amp. Hopefully at that point I will have a less harsh sound and will be able to turn up the volume to a strong level without the overly bright cymbals and excessive vocal sibilance.
