Shudder under Acceleration?

I've had this problem for a while now, and was wondering if anyone is having the same issue.

I have a 5 spd, and after shifting from 2-3 or 3-4 or 4-5, if accelerating a bit more than I should, it starts shuddering/shaking accompanied by a bit of noise, not really knocking, but similar.

If I let off the gas and press it again not as hard, it runs nice...

I did notice that the shuddering and noise get reduced and almost don't occur if the ESP is in Partial Off, but never tried it in Full Off mode.

I will be taking it to the dealer to look at for my next oil change, but in the meantime any suggestions on what to check would be appreciated.

Thanks.

It might or it might not. If the clutch is heavily worn or for some other reason is slipping, heavier acceleration will make likely make it noticeable. You have friction material that is supposed to lock-up and out put engine movement to the transmission. The faster the engine movement is the harder the clutch has to work to lock up with it.

If you shift below than 1800rpm - 2000rpm, this is normal.

Are you shifting between 2000rpm and 2500rpm ? This is the ideal shifting range.

shutter

I to am having a problem with the shudder. At first i thought it was just me getting used to driving a stickshift again but after owning my pat for over a year it still has a good shutter. More noticable when accelerating from a dead stop with light acceleration. It will start off fine and at about 5mph it will just drop to like 500 rpm but it will immediatly pick back up. Almost got rearended by some a$$ hole that was tailgating me because of it. Does anybody know if there is a TSB for the shutter?

Your problem sounds like mine. Please read my post and see if it sounds familiar.

Sounds like good, old fashioned "lug". You're shifting too low in the powerband. I believe it's related to driveline binding. Just give it some more revs before you shift, it should be fine. I can make my CVT do the same thing, if I try to accelerate from about 25-30 with the Autostick in 6th. Any manual shift vehicle (except maybe a diesel) will do this if you short-shift it bad enough.

shuddering

Hi I have a jeep commander 3.0 L diesal automatic 2009, 70,000 miles that runs fine until you accelerate hard then the car shudders and loses power. If you ease off the accelerator it runs ok again and the electronic throttle light comes on. Fully serviced and had to replace control module and 6 glow plugs but problem still there. did you get your problem solved

Ok, I hope this will be of help to some....
I bought my second hand Pat crd (2009) about a year ago. I started noticing a slight vibration and shudder when gearing at low revs but I was new to 'diesel' and thought that this might be normal.
Over the months it got very bad. When I accelerated between 1800 and just before 2500 rpm, the whole car would vibrate and shudder (very noisy) then fine from 2500/2700 and up.
I took it into my mechanic and they tried to resolve the problem. After searching for help on this Pat forum, we decided to replace the suspension bushes along with the engine mountings but no luck.
I carried on searching but everyone that had this problem seemed to say it was just one of those things and there was no solution.
I was starting to think that I just had to accept it and let it be.
A month or so ago I heard a weird noise when I released the clutch, like a kind of grinding sound.
2 weeks ago I noticed my gears were sticking and when shifting from 1-2 and 2-3 on revs from 3000 and up, my gears would grind.
I took it in and they checked the clutch which is fine and they opened up the gearbox but everything was 100%.
They then realised that the release bearing needed to be replaced along with the fly wheel.
I picked up my Pat today and the gears are perfect along with absolutely no vibrations nor shuddering.
It is either one of the two or the combination of both that were causing the vibrations and shuddering.
Needless to say, I am extremely happy!!
I hope this helps some of you on this forum as I know I would have been over the moon had I read up on this solution a while back.....

I've had this issue for a few years now. You just need to rev higher when shifting. Also resetting the CPU so it can relearn how you drive helped me but it will still do it if my RPMs are low. I have to shift higher than what is recommended in the beginning of this thread now. This tiny 4 banger shoved in a heavier Crossover/SUV doesn't do justice at all.

Just bought a 2015 Patriot automatic about a month ago and was getting a low rpm shudder or vibration when I would slow down to almost stopping and then accelerate again. In other words, it would shudder after the trans down shifted.
I took it back to the dealer, and they were able to find a service bulletin that has something to do with the transmission module. I did not get all the details but they replaced it and it seems to be a lot better now.
