Am I the only one that hates to close the rear hatch because the license plate bangs against the two foam blocks behind it, and it sounds absolutely terrible? Does anyone have a fix for this? I can't figure out why on earth Jeep didn't put four screw holes for the plate instead of two.

Is your concern just the noise or the effects on your finish of the metal licence plate banging?
I just put my plate in one of those cheapo black plastic frames.
Unfortunately if you look at a variety of vehicles over the next few days you would see very few that have a four point securing format.

davecanuck - My concern/annoyance is just the noise. This is however the only real thing I have to complain about with this vehicle. If I can find duck tape in a matching color, I am ready to just tape it down. My 99 XJ has four places to screw the plate in and I guess I never realized what a difference it makes. Jeep did such a good job with the 09 interior update I wish they addressed the plate outside as well.

My patriot came with a with a little plastic ziploc bag with 4 little round foam adhesive dots, one of those in each lower corner of the back side of the plate fixed that problem completely. They are just thick enough that they are a taunt fit between the body and the plate so there is no rattling or plate contact with the body when closing the door.

Otherwise, as stated above some foam tape on the back should help.

For a more refined solution you might also want to go to your local harware or dare I say walmart and get some foam adhesive chair leg pads. They come in various sizes and stick to the bottom of your chair legs to keep them from marring the floor. That is what the tiny foam things my jeep came with reminded me of.

Thanks for all of the great ideas. I had some velcro that I was going to try but didn't know how it would hold up. Now I have some other options to try if that doesn't work.

Plates

UK Plates stay with the Vehicle for life, Therefore they are stuck on with double sided tape, or screwed firmly on the bodywork. If screwed the holes are usually plasic lined & put there during manufacture.:D

any hardware store has these 3M felt pads (for putting under furniture when moving them), put 2 on the back of the bottom part of the license plate. they have adhesive backing, and are easily removable.

I did just as "UA who" did. Last year when I got tired of hearing the rear plate slap against the hatch, I just bent the plate outwards a little. No more noise, no extra holes, and no more money spent.

Great thread! I hate the noise too! People look over at me in the parking lot, thinking I broke my Jeep:-(
