OK So I got a 2008 Sport E CVT FWD that I just love right. I have done anything and everything like i was soupin up a golfcart or something...

My question is, is it ethical to order official 4x4 trail rated badges and put them on just to impress the hunnies.... lol or anyone else who sees me on the road...

I mean no one is gonna know unless the fumble around with my shifter...

Or is this... just a sock in my pants.....??

Hey Mista G I believe we have the exact same Patriot (Colors, Feature, Engine) How you like that chrome on Silver? And do your rear seats recline?

Finger pointing from who? The oil changer or are you actualy thinking people can eyeball the difference from the outside on the road moving..

I actually just like the way the badges look and what else am I going to put? DeLuxe??

Anyone that knows Patriots will see the trail rated badge, then notice the lack of front and rear tow hooks. Only the FDII were trail rated. I was driving behind a Hyundai Tiburon the other day and it had a Supercharged badge on one side of the trunk, a Turbo badge on the other side and a NOS sticker in the middle (as well as a Limited badge, a Special Edition badge and a Dodge R/T Badge). The car had a serious identity crisis.

You think that's bad, I saw a Prius with a hood duct and fender vents with "flame" decals! LOL...though with recent events that is probably an electrical fire under the hood :p I have a picture on my cell phone somewhere and will post it soon.

Dude, why try to deceive people? The "hunnies" will think ******* or if they happen to be Jeepster's, they could tell by the height of your Patriot compared to 4x4 Pats and lack of a 4-LO lever. Then if the Carolinas get another taste of snow, you'll be putting all Patriots to shame while your FWD slides around all funny-like :D Save your money towards something more useful, like a 4x4 2011 Patriot :p

What happens when the road gets washed in ankle-deep mud and a mom w/ 4 kids flags you down to tow out her minivan because, you know, you've got a 4x4, right? Horrible time to have to admit that it's a sham.

Same reason i DIDN'T buy that clean, 4-cyl, low-mile used Camry all those years back... the guy stuck a "V6" badge on it. Why would you do that?? Sketchy...

I say DON'T do it. It's false advertising. This, indeed, is the sock to which you referred.

Personally, i prefer debadging.

I guess there are no ethical issues, more like egotistical. But if that's what floats your boat, it's your ride and you can do what you like.

With the usual one exception it seems you who have the FDII are the ones who say I should not. Could this be because you know deep down you paid two thousand dollars more for something that I can accomplish 360 days of the year by spending $40 on some badges? How about do you REALLY shift into 4x4 or perhaps the question is where I am is flat dry moderate climate, how often would I shift into 4WD.. other then to show it off.. never..

Still aint made my mind up.. And of course I wouldnt try to sell it like that....

I have a FDI, though I never really said whether you should or shouldn't. I personally wouldn't. I notice wrong badging (Type R badges on Hondas for example) and just find it sad. But, you are your own person and can do what pleases you. If you want a Trail Rated emblem on your Patriot, then by all means, go do it.

I second that! LOL

...and if you're not liking other opinions, don't ask for them. If you want to do the 4xFaux, just do it- heck, be creative about it :pepper:

I prefer debadging, to remove all marks. My Compass has only "Jeep" badge and "CRD" on the tail gate and it's obvious that it's a 4x4. They sell no 4x2 Jeeps in Europe ;).

Debadging allows you to be "a wolf in the sheep's skin".
For example the same Honda Civic, which really is a Type R, after debadging looks just like an ordinary Civic, but can bite like a Type R.

In this case, you try to be "a sheep in the wolf's skin". I see no point in it. But that's just my humble opinion :)

If you want to impress the gullible, it will work. However, a lie is still a lie. And you'll look real stupid up to your bumpers in snow with one wheel spinning. I dread the day when I get stuck with FWD and somebody notices I'm in a Jeep. Better get real good tires like I did, and no, I didn't add any untruths to my Patriot.

I won't put a trail rated badge on any Jeep that doesn't (IMO) preform as well as the factory trail rated. In other words, if I lifted my Jeep, put skid plates on, added a front tow point, I may consider putting on a trail rated badge, but I would still be missing the gearing and BLD, etc.

If I saw you with a Trail Rated Badge without tow hooks, I would laugh at you (there have been no trail rated Patriots without tow hooks). If I found out afterwards that it was FWD, I would have no problem mocking you.

All of that being said, I don't expect many girls to even notice the trail rated badge, and the ones that do notice it and like it, probably would pick up that it wasn't one, and may even tell you that you should have gotten a wrangler...

Not worth it. It is exactly the same as putting the sock in your pants, except in this case most girls aren't even looking below your waist (i.e. looking for a trail rated badge).

Might as well put an "R/T" or a "Hemi" badge on it.
Actually, we could safely put "Hemi" badges on our rides as the 2.4L does in fact have hemispherical combustion chambers. It may only have 4 of them, but it is a Hemi. Where's the Half-a-Hemi badges!?!
