Patriot Truck - Why Not?

Thinking about consolidating vehicles. Possibly trading in the Challenger as it's worthless 3 months out of the year. Also selling the ol' K1500, as we don't tow anything substantial anymore and it literally costs me 10.00 a day in gas just to go to town and back to meet the carpool.
With how comfortable and capable the Patriot is on open road, in the snow and dirt roads...and it's ability to do light towing....I WISH THEY MADE A PATRIOT TRUCK! My problem would be solved!
Any suggestions besides a Saw-zall? Boy the wife would be mad....

When I ordered my Patriot, I was afraid that I would miss having a pickup, but then I got a small utility trailer (5'x8') which gives me the ability to haul "stuff" when I need to. Harbor Freight makes a folding trailer--has a load of 750-1000 lbs, I believe, so that would be good as well for the occasional hauling--and it folds up into something a little over 4' hight, 4-1/2 feet wide and maybe 18" thick. Check it out on line.

I'd heard that too, maybe browsing Allpar. It would be a great idea. When AMC owned Jeep they made one -- it was tiny but cute, and I think I could like it.

Earthworm, wouldn't the Patriot make a great Comanche-sized pick-up?

A friend of mine had a Chevy S-10 with a 2.2. It wasn't fast but it did the work of a truck and got great gas mileage. The MK platform would fill a niche.

Yea, a small trailer works great. I have the Harbor Freight fold-up model mentioned above. Was a little over $200 for the trailer and about another $100 to cover the bed and make sides. It's axles are rated for 1200lbs so max payload is about 1000lbs. Works great when I need it and when I don't It's folded up in the corner of the garage.

I've had a J8 (I think that was it, maybe Gladiator) and a Comanche, and think that the extra light rear ends were not as good off road as our Patriot.

My Ram gets about 12MPG, so I only use it when I really need a 8 foot bed. Before these newer high gas prices, I would take trucks on road trips, camping, or anything, but now I have to be careful with costs. Over $100 to fill the truck.

I agree with MB, very few would sell.

AIC, that truck reminds me a lot of the Subaru Brat.

Thanks for the input gang!....and I do have an older pop-up tent trailer with a shot top (the dreaded Fleetwood/Coleman ABS self-destructing top they sold for a decade and won't stand behind or even sell you a replacement.) that I was thinking of stripping and converting into a utility trailer for that purpose. Problem is, other than the top, it's perfect and everything works. The HFT trailer may be the ticket, The other issue is....we've always been truck folks. Each of us had our own trucks for years and no cars. One of us is usually hauling something and it's also convenient to hit Lowes on the way through town before heading up the ridge.

AIC, nice link and I do hear that Chevy is coming out with a "new S10" or something next year. I just hope it's not priced through the celing. I really think that was the small trucks downfall....priced like the big ones. Would be nice to see Mopar/Jeep build something. They have such a perfect platform with the Pat, being a combo of FWD/AWD/4WD. Beef up the rear suspension, extend the pan a foot or so and VIOLA! Perfect $20k "total use" compact-truck.

The 2015 colroado... I'm very tempted...

https://www.chevrolet.com/2015-colorado-small-truck.html

I had a 2007 colardo (well an isuzu i-290, but they were exactly the same except the grill), and loved it. The only reason I sold it was because my wife got pregnant, and we had 2 motorcycles, a classic vw bug, and the truck... and nowhere to put a baby.

First pick up I ever bought new was $7,000.00, and I drove it 3 years and sold it for $6,700. That was just the beginning of the pick up craze. Before that mostly just construction workers and farmers had pick ups, then seemed like there was one in every driveway.

LOL! I was married, divorced and remarried by then!...but that Comanche (whacked Cherokee) is EXACTLY what I'm talking about what I wish thery'd do the the Pat.... If they did ANYTHING, they'd probably do it to the Compass with the new 'swoopier' front end they seem to be trending toward.

I had a Comanche too. I went to the Ram (my first Ram) cause I wanted an 8 foot bed. I was working on an addition to my house and need a bigger bed to haul plywood, wallboard, etc. Was nice sleeping in the 8 foot bed too, although we did camp in the Comanche.

87, hmm, I had already spent over 8 years in the Army, married, had kids, lost a daughter, divorced, and was with my current wife by then, and had started work where I am now by then too.

I am very interested in the 2015 Chevy Colorado. Especially the deisel version. If you can get it with 4 wheel drive and the z71 package for less than 28K (nicely equipped), and it gets 25 MPG, they may have a winner.
Basically they have to pretty much match the Patriot's pricing schedule and MPG or else it doesn't add up. They have yet to release MPG estimates or pricing. I paid less than 27K for my 2014 Patriot Latitude FDii with sun and sound package, trailer tow group, and remote start. So outfit a 2015 Colorado the same. All the options in the Jeep Latitude trim plus premium sound, bluetooth, remote start, 4x4 with offroad package, etc. If it's more than 28K or gets less than 25 MPG I wouldn't even consider it.

In 87 my future parents hadn't even graduated highschool or for that matter they hadn't even met each other!
