Jeep Australia are having a big promotion now offering "great deals" on their current stock. So, I decided to pay them a visit and see what sort of deal I could get to trade my Pat for a Wrangler....

My Pat was purchased new last April and has 14,000 kms on the clock. It is as new condition even though the dealer didn't bother to have a look.

The great deal? they offered me $12,000 for my Pat (cost $25,500 last year). So he wanted $20k and my Pat to drive out with a Wrangler?

Told him that will not be enough and walked out disappointed...

That's crazy!!! I don't see how it would be possible for him to come up with that number. When I worked at a bank I used their "black book" value for my Patriot. It was around a year after purchase and it was supposedly valued by the bank at 16k. Which is what you should be looking at.

If his pat is worth $16k then makes sense dealer would offer him $12k,
Dealers won't bother paying selling price for a car.
They are looking to make $$$,
Plust you pay a premium for trading in your car,
For some people worth the $2k-3k loss to trade it in, and not worrying about listing it, appointments to view the car, tire kicking, negotiating,
Hoping it doesn't take 1 month 2 months 3 months to sell

Are those numbers in Australian dollars? That makes a difference. Either way, there's no way a Jeep should depreciate 50% in one year. I just traded in my 4 year old Patriot (good/fair condition) for $9000 USD, bought for ~$15000. Sounds like a swindle.

I was invited as a valued MOPAR customer to a Red Carpet deal day at my local dealer 5 months ago . Come & see the New Compass, Chrysler Ypsilon & Chrysler Delta ( Already road tested Delta )
I have had Caliber, Patriot & Avenger off this dealer.

I expressed an interest on buying a new Delta SE Petrol & got some figures worked out .

There was something about adding more money to the pathetic ÂŁ3,500 offered for my Avenger . Then nothing to pay for 3 Yrs . After 3 yrs stumping up another ÂŁ12.000 or handing the Delta back ...

I used to love this dealer , but since FIAT got involved they started to slide down hill.

I found a local Peugeot dealer who gave me ÂŁ5,000 for the Avenger , so I swapped for a vey nice used Peugeot . Similar type car to the Delta , but better built & with an engine co-designed with BMW for use in their cars & the MINI Cooper.

However I havnt given up on Jeep & look forward to what my be on offer in the future!!

That's bs dealerships never lose money . So even if they offered $16,000 they will still make a profit. When most ppl buy a used car . They would be more than likely to buy a warranty which are way over priced at the dealership this is how they never lose ex: $2300.00 warranty you buy really only cost around $1200.00 for them to purchase.

1) The newer you trade, the worse the depreciation. You could run your Patriot for another year and get almost the same trade value. And another, and another, and so on. If you ran it to a million miles, they'd still offer you something for the trade.

2) Shop around, someone will offer you more. Go back to Jeep and say, "I'm thinking of trading my Pat on a _____________, and they've offered me ____________; but I like your dealership and I'll give you a chance to compete." They'll find a way to match it. Or say this, "I won't tell you what other dealers have offered me for trade-in value, but you're not even close." Let him save his pride, and suggest he talk to his manager again -- he must have missed something.

3) Depending on their situation, different dealers will offer radically different amounts. I went to trade a vehicle back in 1997 and between several dealers I was offered as low as $5000 toward a Dodge Durango, and as much as $15,000 toward an Olds Bravada, and some other offers in between. Same vehicle, shopping for similar competitive vehicles, all offers within a month of each other.

If you're locked in on one vehicle or one dealer, they can smell it, and they'll take advantage of you. I rarely push a dealer, I don't have to -- keep shopping, and they'll come around.

They dont need to talk to a manager... Its the waiting game. The longer you toil in your own excitement about a new car, the more likely a bad deal will sound good.

When I bought the Patriot, I worked out everything via email. Didnt have a trade which made that possible. But I emailed several dealerships asking for an out the door price on a Patriot with manual trans and 4x4. Only 2 or 3 responded with a price. ALLLL the others said, come on in and test drive one, we can work out the price later.

Binnsy, try selling the Pat yourself. If you want a new Wrangler, but dont NEED one, put yours up for sale online, or in the paper, throw a for sale sign in your window and wait until someone bites.

Fortunately I'm not in any rush to change, just thought as they had a "promotion" going it may be an opportunity for a good deal....

I will throw out a couple of lures and sit back with a Corona ;)

I went to my home town NJ dealership and they offered me 9500.00 for my 2010 Sport FWD 5 speed Patriot with the 2.4 A/C and power group, I added that I had the factory NAV and the salesman said it doesn't matter and that 9500.00 is his best offer. I went online and and closed a deal on a 2012 Jeep Patriot sport 4x4 with power group A/C 5 speed with the 2.4. The Jeep listed for 21,500, they dropped the price to 18,500.00 and offered me 15,500.00 for my Jeep + tax, title and so on. I thought that was a good deal and accepted there offer. I drove to Boston on a weekend and finalized the deal. This is the second car purchased from Boston and I must admit the people there are straight shooters and super nice vs your typical car salesman here in NJ. Can I get a fist pump!!

While having my oil changed I was approached by a jeep salesman, so I figured I would kill a few minutes and find out how much value my 2010 Patriot Latitude X has retained. I was offered $15,000 US with 23500 on the odometer.
