235/70/16 will rub,big time on a fwd Patriot...not sure if 225 would work.

Cheers,
Bill.

i saw no 225/75r15 tire setups.

any thoughts as why?

I think a 225/75r15 setup would only work on a 15x7 wheel. Most folks run 15x8s and 235s in order to look right. My planned setup will be 225/75r15 Cooper discoverer at3s on the classic turbine wheels from the late 80s Cherokee.

Our 99 XJ Cherokee Sport came with 225/75/15 Goodyear tires and I replaced them with 235/75/15 Michelin LTX tires and the odometer is accurate. I never actually tried these on our Patriot but I read somewhere that the wheels will not clear the brakes ??

You odometer was off it was just off by a very small amount.

I'm on 15x7 rims with 215/75R15 mud terrains. I wish they make a 205 80 r15. Idk the name of the mud tires over in the UK but they look like that size with the military style tread. I'd take that with some extra siping.

Kuhmo kl71 cokes is 205/80/16 and doesn't weight too much either really awesome looking tire. But in a 16"

I'm going to be purchasing the hankook atm's 235/65/17. I have a 2012 sport 4x4 with the premium wheel package. Question if I get spacers do I still need to do the pinch weld mod, and if I do need the weld mod and/or get spacers am I able to mount and drive my jeep with the wheels mounted until I get those things done?

I have 17" rubicon rims with 235/65/17 grabbers

245/65/17 Firestone Destination AT
Factory 17" Wheels
1.25" Spacers
Pinch Weld Mod

ZERO RUB
Just a heads-up, I have Tyler's setup from above on my Patriot right now. I'm glad I tried them out because I have started looking at slightly smaller tires. I have the lift and pinch weld mod but on a pre-2010 patriot and I get a little bit of rub in reverse with the steering locked. I'm now leaning towards 225/75r16 for a more permanent set. They're not much smaller in diameter but I think the width on these 245's is where my problem lies. They're fine on-road but I want something I don't have to worry about suspension travel with when I'm off-road. Sorry the picture isn't great, the only other one I have at the moment was at night.

Cooper ATW 235/75R16 on 2015 FD1

I recently installed a set of 235/75R16 Cooper ATW tires on my wife's 2015 Patriot FD1. Pictures are in an album under my username. The wheels are 16x7 Ultra 402S Alpine wheels with +25mm offset. The overall tire dimensions when mounted on this 7" wide rim are 29.7" tall, 9.5" section width, and 6.75" tread width. The new wheel/tire combination is 52# vs. 45# stock. They add 1.25" ground clearance, and are 10% bigger in terms of rev/mile. The only rubbing is in the front right fenderwell, at a bit of sheetmetal at the inner rear of the well, with steering at full right lock. It is the size of a dime, or the size of a pencil eraser after some local persuasion in that area with a punch.
I have no lift and no pinch-weld modification.

I'm excited to see how these ATW tires perform in the winter, as they supposedly exceed the requirements for the 'severe weather' rating by far. They are supposedly low rolling resistance for an AT tire, too. For others interested in the ATW, I believe it will be available in a 235/70R16 in the August or so; that seems to be a size many forum members are comfortable with. I didn't want to wait.

I want to thank the forum members for the descriptions of their respective setups, because it allowed me to hone in on the best wheel offset to fit the largest diameter tire, without modifications. I did make a 'tire comparator' spreadsheet that is different from the ones I found on-line, in that it will adjust the tire's section width according to the wheel width, and it plots a 'swing radius' that allows you to visualize how one wheel/tire combination will swing in an arc relative to another. I'd be happy to give that to the forum if it would be useful.

2010 Patriot Sport 4X4 with Cooper Discoverer AT3's

Got some 2007 Wrangler 16" wheels, and put these new 215/70/16 AT3's on them with 1.25" wheel spacers. No Lift, or any other suspension mods. The front tire in the picture is the new one, compared to the old 215/60/17 Geolanders. I'll post some better finished photos tomorrow.

Hi

A newbie here, having just purchased a 2007 2.0CRD Sport (VW 2.0 engine here in the UK), manual, 6-speed.

It needs two new front tyres, but not overly keen on the Nexen that are on it so thought I'd probably purchase 4 new tyres, with a slightly more aggressive tread pattern to keep with the "Jeep" off-road image.

It has 17" alloys (which ideally need a refurbish) and I notice that lots of people seem to be running 225 tyres, rather than the standard 215? What difference does this make to the handling etc. please and particularly, whilst I would like a more off-road type tyre, I still want it to handle well on the road without too much noise!

Any recommendations please?

Thanks, Rob.
