I like the old raised white letters of the 1960s & 70s.
OWLs are the next best thing. :smiley_thumbs_up:

 

I love how OWL look on trucks, SUVs especially on older ones. Personal choice of corse.

I have the same tires. I ordered the black sidewall. Funny thing is the tread is reversible and they are owl on the other side...

Yup, that's what the tire shop told me...OWL on one side turn the lettering inside if I want black sidewalls. He said more and more tire manufacturers are doing this.

Sort of depends on the wheels for me. I like the OWLs on mine, but on other vehicles I had chrome wheels on I liked plain blackwalls.

I think plain black will look better on a grey pat.

And that's my problem:
In general I think solid black looks best on aggressive, lifted, off road vehicles and my Patriot is not one of those.
But I'm not sure the OWL will look good with the cheap looking steel rims or the darkish grey paint.

I would have gone OWL if it was available in a tire size I wanted.. The ones that came on my FDII looked awesome. The ones that came with my FDII also have boogered up letters now from rubbing curbs and such, by my blackwall Yoko's still look new. OWL looks better IMO, but the blackwell definitely looks new longer

I think BSW looks best with black rims or when going for a "beefy" look and OWL looks best with silver rims. Chrome rims I think can go either way depending on the vehicle color.

I have the tires on my Jeep now and put the OWL facing out.
I got to see the tires both ways (long story) and felt they looked too plain without the white lettering.

I'll try to post a picture when time allows.

I think the OWL look especially nice on black patriots. In fact I have already repainted the letters with tire ink pens as they tend to fade after a few years.

 

After a little frustration, here's a side shot of Ignatz with what was then his new tires. These aren't the tires I use for winter, but they're pretty good on the highway and for light off-roading. You can compare to the blackwalls in my avatar photo.
