Oil inside intake behind throttle body plate

Hello fellow riot owners.
I have over 98k on my Patriot now. I’m pretty sure it has never had the little lovey dovey things done to it like a throttle body cleaning.
I attempted the other day to take it all apart, when I got the throttle off I noticed a puddle of oil at the bottom of the intake. Maybe a few ounces. It was high enough in level where it was starting to pool on the inside of the throttle body behind the plate. Sorry I didn’t take pics, but this is what happened. The throttle body was pretty caked on. I had to use bamboo skewer to remove the carbon deposits in some spots because the CRC stuff wouldn’t take it off. I did the relearn procedure since it was idling all funny after and that helped ALOT.
Anyone else have this occur or see this when cleaning it?
seems like it wants to start better too, now that there isn’t a bunch of oil fumes bleeding off and accumulating in the intake when it’s sitting.
I also took off the PCV valve and cleaned that out the other month. It was working fine.

When I cleaned my intake manifold after about 140k miles, I also had a small puddle, but maybe only an ounce tops. The pcv sucks vapors out of the engine along with oily mist so some is very normal if the pcv is good and the engine isn't producing a lot of blowby. Some guys take to putting a puke can on it to catch the oil and then drain it periodically. Definitely best to just replace the valve, they're not expensive and are easy to change.

I am the guy who installed the oil separator after the PCV. But then I replaced the PCV, made sure the new valve worked and removed the separator.

By the way, it is not advisable to use an oil separator in winter. The water condensate will freeze there.

P.S. And then I still had to change the throttle valve.

One of our resident experts (@todde702) claims a small amount of oil is normal in this thread: https://www.jeeppatriot.com/threads/is-it-hard-to-replace-throttle-body-and-should-i.334823/ I'm a bit OCD and would simply replace the PCV occasionally. Does the fact that they rattle when shaken really mean they are working correctly 100%?

Can you share what your relearn procedure is? I've seen several and I think the service manual claims a scan tool is needed to do it.
I will probably replace the plastic valve soon. Yeah you are right with that simple shake test. It’s not for certain. They can open but sometimes they won’t seal 100% when they’re supposed which allows pressurize oil gases to escape into the intake and then mostly combustion chamber, but some of it is trapped inside the intake. It was very clean looking oil but very fuming smelling. On my other riot I never noticed a puddle when cleaning it but I did replace the valve twice within the 85k I owned it.

What I did was:
1. turn key to ignition
2. wait for lights to go off.
3. Slowly depress gas pedal to the floor over 10-15 seconds and then slowly back up over 10-15 secs.
4. Then turn off ignition and remove key, open door, close door.
5. Start jeep.
worked very nicely without having to disconnect the battery.

Glad it’s just a common thing then. These engines barely have any issues due to blow by. Maybe the MAP sensors need cleaning eventually also Due to excess oil vapor.
Okay I might’ve had about an oz worth actually looking back.
It looked like more inside the bottom intake. Thankfully the PCV is really accessible and close to everything else on top of the valve cover. Keep on changing my oil every 3-4K.
I noticed something was up because I would drive around a corner fast and then I’d have this weird power band when accelerating. It would buck and stutter sometimes. None of that now.
Thanks for the responses!
