I have a 2013 and want to make the first oil change. The oil change reminder has yet to go off. My question is if I go ahead and change it now should I reset the reminder as it says in the O/M even tho it has not appeared yet and will it make a difference or not to reset?

Thanks
MDB

Took me about 5 tries to reset my oil reminder.

I changed my first oil at 3000 miles and went through the reset procedure (the indicator had not illuminated), but there seems to be no confirmation it reset. I'm logging the maintenance so I don't have to rely on the notification. I'll probably change it in 4000 miles and switch to Mobile One. But I can't see going over 5000 miles between changes regardless of the notification.

Yes reset it. The OLM does not actually physically monitor the oil. You could have Crisco in there and it wouldn't know. It uses a formula to determine how much life should be left based on things like idle time, rpm's, ambient temperature, and so on. If you change the oil it won't know it. The OLM will keep counting down as if no change was done.

My owners manual says under no circumstances go over 5000...Ive got a 2007. My oil reminder light has never come on and we've had it for 9 months, and over 12,000 miles. Changed the oil 3 times already, about to do the fourth tonite. I try to keep it at about 35-4000. A good safe zone. Its cheap enough. What? $20 bucks a pop? 20 minutes of my time?

5k?
i have 133k miles on my 07
while i try for oil changes every 3k-5k miles
i often go over 5k, have gone as far as 10k miles between changes
and have not had a problem yet,
same oil change pattern as my previous car and that had 250k problem free miles
i bet if you had an oil change plan through a dealer they would disregard that 5k limit

I've got my manual right here...and would like to say 1st off, I was WRONG...sorry guys!
It says QUOTE: "Under no circumstances should oil change interval exceed 6000 miles (10,000 K) or 6 months, whichever comes first." So I was wrong to say 5000 miles. Wow..a previous posted stated engines must be getting better..Either that or oil is getting better, or gasoline cleaner.... But as far as a 2007 goes, its pretty much black and white.
