VERY close but no rubbing at all. no mods. i've turned the wheel lock to lock, going up and down inclines....no problem.

i'm sure once i have my lift kit installed, it will not only look even better but have even MORE clearance. i do have to warn you that in the city, the "Mud Terrains" do have quite a bit more road noise than the "All Terrains" i had on my Wrangler. but it's nothing i can't live with. after all, isn't that what the Boston Acoustic System is for?????

yea, i agree.......this thread SUCKS! the idiot that started it should be drawn and quartered.

bragging about his Compass "MOAB" and then you can't even see it. i did see that he had pics posted, but i guess some old man (we'll call him "Gramps" for the sake of this post) said he would "help" with the posting of pics.

apparently all that did was remove the pics that were on here in the first place. i'm beginning to believe that this member isn't meant to post pics, adjust the size of his pics (he has really BIG pics from what i heard) and he's a complete computer moron when it comes to this crap.

people like him should stay the Hell OFF forums like this and allow a much more informed member, such as "jeepkid" to speak his mind and assist all of you with your needs and wants.

screw you "Jeepster55"......you're a fargon icehole!!!!
:worthless:

:soapbox:
I thought that you wanted help in "how to" not "do it for me". You have my email address, send me the pics. Whatever it takes, I'm at your disposal "old" friend. :D

Okay... The photos are in the initial message... WOW.... Great job on the wheels! Exactly the idea I have been playing around with, only in a very dark metallic gray instead of black. Nicely done....

Nice looking tag on the front bumper too... What does that stand for? Never Again Volunteer Yourself, right?

that's just wrong.....especially coming from someone of YOUR stature! ok, yea....it was funny! :D

actually, i wasn't IN the NAVY, my daughter was. she was just recently released, i mean discharged and is now in training for an Air Traffic Controller in Palmdale CA. before she got out, she had sent me the plate for the front of my Wrangler and the rear license plate frame. never made it on that Jeep as i traded it for the Compass shortly thereafter........but looks good on my "Moab Killer", huh???? :smiley_thumbs_up:

It does indeed.... Question, to stay on topic.... Did you consider not painting the Jeep letters in the center hubs? If and when I find the time to do mine, I'm thinking about painting the flat surface of the hubs, but leave the letters Jeep in silver...

yes i did. my original plan was to leave the silver center 'cap' but then i thought i would paint it all black and do the "Jeep" lettering in red. but then i thought green would be the appropriate color, so i ended up doing nothing.............for now. maybe i'll go back and paint the "Jeep" lettering "Sublime Green". works for me......:)

WOW!....Excellent concept & execution on the 16 inchers....easily the most aggressive looking Compass or Patriot I've seen on the forum -- bar none. Some may argue that 20" or larger equipped MK's are just as impressive, but I can't get over the fact that those skinny sidewalls make a vehicle, especially an SUV or truck, look so anemic -- unless they're slammed to the ground. Back on topic, I'd expect that road noise would be quite noticeable on those BFG's. Again, congrats. BTW, I've been down to Moab twice for mtn bk'g...absolutely love the area -- what with Arches, Canyonlands, etc...Paradise on Earth! :smiley_thumbs_up:

thanks again......i DO have another take on the wheels and trim on the Compass. if i can get it in to get the lift kit on sometime this century:(, i may do the wheels slightly different while they're off and going with different center caps.....i think i'll actually like this better and will tie in with the rest of the Jeep.

still working on which roof basket will work. i was trying to find something that would work with my 'roof rails' and not mount on TOP of my Sport Bars, but so far no success.

any ideas?

Damn, Jeepster55. I keep seeing your pictures here and there, and every time I do, I start thinking if perhaps some mud terrains would be in order for my Patriot... :) Of course, my problem is that I have the 17" rims, and AFAIK BFGoodrich doesn't make a suitable tire for that rim size. (There is of course the Yokohama All-Terrains... But those BFG's just look too damn good! :) )

Aaanyways, I did have a real question, too. Can you give me any idea of the difference between road noise with the mud terrains when compared to a strictly on-road "go-fast slicks"? Unfortunately I have no experience with off-roading tires, so I am left wondering whether mud-terrain tires would be a tad too much for me in a vehicle that spends the majority of its time on asphalt. (And then there's the whole winter tire issue, too... But that is a separate topic.)

well, to answer your question about 'noise', yep....the M/T's are noisier than the OEM tires. if i had to do it over, i should have gone with the BFG A/T's. had them on my 06 Wrangler Unlimited and they not only looked so 'damn good', but were great in the snow AND quiet. quieter than the OEM Wranglers that came on it. i know what you mean about BFG and 17" tires.....that's what i really wanted to do, but came across some FREE 16" Pat take-offs, so my choice was made.

i had my 17" OEM alloys and Goodyear SR-A's up for sale but i'm now just thinking about putting them back on until winter and THEN switching over the the M/T's. like i said, really noisy in town. on the Interstate? not so bad.....well, actually i think it's because i CRANK UP my BA system. ;)

Jeepster, a tire size calculator shows that those BFG's are a good two inches taller than the original tire sizes for Compass. How was the performance of your Compass with those mounted?

you did a good job with the paint, but i think it would look better with the entire wheel blacked out. or maybe the spokes in a dark gunmetal.

You know, for those people who hate the factory steel wheels, Jeepster55's repaint is probably the best disguise I've seen yet for them. Nice work.

I just powder coated mine black and left the centers silver. It works for me.
