Knee hitting ignition key and shutting off Pat while driving?

This is the second time Ive been driving, in the fast lane on the highway, and moved my knee and bumped the ignition key shutting off the Pat. Almost getting into a wreck both times, I was able to coast to a stop over onto the shoulder. An old car, you could have put it in neutral and turned the motor back over or something while rolling probably but in this case, I had to come to a complete stop, and turn the ignition back over then back into drive. The 2nd time being on as bridge with a 4 foot shoulder and cars swerving into the fast lane to avoid my stalled Pat.
Anyone else had this problem with the location of the ignition? Seems crazy and ****in dangerous and its pissing me off now after the second time

I'm over 6', drive with the seat all the way back and cranked up a couple of inches--never even came close to hitting the ign sw.

Reminds me of a friend's airplane--it was old and the key was worn as well as the mag switch--same as ign on a car. Well, he had a wad of keys on his ring and one day in heavy turbelance, the keys began to swing and actually turned off BOTH mags, then the keys slipped out of the lock and fell down on the floor--just out of reach. Talk about a "Chinese fire drill!" Remember it was quite "bumpy" so loosening one's seat belt wasn't prudent--but the engine was just windmilling--with no power and one's self preservation was first and foremost...well, he did get the keys and found the proper one--they all look alike--and turned on the mags before the engine wound down. I believe an underwear change was needed upon landing....

I've only had this problem when parked and my knee hit the key and the car shut off. I had the radio up and didn't know the car was off put it into drive and went nowhere. I laughed at myself for a few seconds.

I would think this would only be a problem for a T-Rex due to it's short arms! :D

One reason I bought the Patriot is I fit in it well. I'm 6'2", and have the seat back all the way, and raised up a lot, and still don't hit my head or knees on anything. Never even got close to the ignition???

It might be like when you go to the doctor's and you say "Doc, when I do this it hurts" And the doc says "Well, don't do that"

I'm the same size and I don't have the seat in the backmost position even. Actually, if I recall right, the Patriot is the first car for me where I don't need to put the seat all the way back. My knee has never been close to the key or the key chain which is quite large.

Okay, so I start work at 6am and get get out at 2:30. It's friday and wife and kids are at the cottage in Clayton. Worked on the house for a few hours (new house - work in progress) and left for three hour drive north. Hour and a half later get on 81 north above Syracuse and turn on cruise. Relax, pull right foot back (wallet with too much plastic cuts off circulation sometimes) and I may have been slouching a tad bit. Knee hits house key I guess and switches ignition back one notch. 65-70 turned key back to run when I realized what I'd done (all the lights on the cluster came on and no power). Stupid silly me.

Hahah, funny responses. Look at my jeep, you can tell from its appearance the seat is all the way back lol. I was actually taking my foot off the gas after putting my cruise control on so it was moving up. I guess my steering wheel may be adjusted too low

I don't know how your seat is adjusted, but I had an issue with my chins hitting the lower box part of the dash, so I had to play with my seat configurations to get it right, now I'm not hittnig anything, but I sure don't come close to hitting the keys....do you have crazy long legs or ??

Johnnie, I checked and you are correct sir, I have one more notch back I could use. I think the seat being raised up helps with that, and adjusting the steering wheel too, and the seat tilted back some, I guess all of that does help. And even with the seat raised up, my head does not hit the roof.

I had someone get in the Jeep yesterday for the first time, gave her a ride to get her car from the shop, and she commented that the jeep inside was bigger than her Blazer. Must be a trailblazer though, cause I know the full size ones are pretty big.
