I would put new batteries in both FOB's. Our 2008 Patriot had the security alarm which I now think was just a nuisance, and our 2015 does not have the security alarm.

 

I would replace the batteries and clean the inside of the fob. Although the attached video refers to newer fobs, it has good info on the impact of dirt/grit to the fob's overall performance.

 

As mentioned a new battery but also take a look at where the battery connector is soldered onto the board, I've had 2 break at that point and need resoldered.

Thanks for your help guys & JeepCares. I don't think it's anything serious most likely just the batteries in the fob. I've attached my 2nd key fob for when the old one finally dies. When that happens if the new one works it'll confirm a dead battery but if it doesn't then it's something more serious.

 

Why don't you just replace the battery. If it is the battery, you'll know right away.

 

Batteries are cheap...and their shelf life is only 3--5 years... change BOTH of them.
