My wife and I are considering the purchase of a Jeep Patriot.
I wanted to know if there are any owners of these vehicles out there. And are you pleased with them?

if you buy it with the right mindset, they are a great vehicle.

There is a reason they are probably one of the cheapest new cars with available 4x4 you can buy right now, even the 2wd version I think undercut 99% of other new cars. Things to not expect: a race car that can beat every other car off the line, a tow master that can tow your toy hauler boats, jet skis and a motor home, a luxury car with the quite refinement of cars costing 2-3x as much as a patriot, fuel sipping on par with a hybrid.

What you can expect: a reasonably comfortable, reasonably roomy vehicle with a decent amount of ground clearance, and an a pretty decent available 4x4 system. For what you pay (like right now incentives are as high as $9000 OFF MSRP!) you get A LOT of vehicle. The powertrain is very reliable, and there isn't a lot to go wrong in them.

The big thing I would look into is your dealer's reputation. it seems like a vast majority of issues people deal with could be resolved quickly with a good dealer, but they spend too much time fighting the dealer, and it leaves a bad taste in their mouths for the cars, which is unfair in my opinion.

Both Patriot and Compass are equal on the inside but the Patriot is bigger for hauling cargo. Get the 2.4 liter engine. If you need awd you take a 3 mpg hit on the highway compared to fwd. Compasses come with alloy wheels stock and Patriots come with steelies. FCA should decide on future name of new Jeep compact soon so people can use that tool when buying their next vehicle. The new compact Jeep is basically a Fiat 500x masked as a Jeep. It will be smaller and more expensive so move on a MK soon. Pretty sure you can't order MKs anymore.

Agree with all the above. I'm very proud that my Patriot Ignatz is well over 200,000 miles and still going strong.
Early Patriots with sunroofs are known to have water leaks; some have had front-end problems. I've had neither problem.
Good ride, remarkable fuel economy, good cargo space for the size it is.

The best indicator of customer satisfaction is repeat business and when Wifey needed a new chariot She bought a 2014 Patriot because I liked my 2008 so much. She's still happy with it; She's now at 50,000 with no problems.

Strong dittos to AIC re: dealer support. My dealer is golden (Bob Mariano, Concord, NH) -- they'll fix anything at a reasonable price. They handled the only 'mystery' problem by not charging me until the problem was actually diagnosed and corrected. And to set your mind at ease, my mystery problem didn't happen till 190,000 miles. At that age, things will happen. It took a couple visits to find a break in the engine harness, but I was patient with them and they were patient with me. Meanwhile the recurring rundowns before the break was found killed my battery and they replaced it n/c. Any wonder my next vehicle is coming from them?

I personally find the Patriot very comfortable with great visibility. Very good price point for a 4X4. Good fuel economy and is practical to operate. I prefer the old school style/design of the Jeep Patriot.

I originally bought a 2009 Patriot Limited 4X4 and drove it for 6 years and liked it enough to buy my 2014 North Edition 4X4. Pleased.....Yes. Cheers.

I like my current Patriot which is a 2015 with the 2.4 engfine and 6 speed automatic transmission with some goodies listed in my signature. I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee TH too, but for my town driving I really drive the Patriot most of the time even though I get about the same gas mileage with my 2.4 engine in the Patriot and my 3.2 v6 in the Cherokee. I don't drive for gas mileage and this little Patriot takes off good enough in town and gets me onto the Interstate with plenty of power that I feel safe in either situation. For the price right now if you can find one with the equipment you want I would recommend it to you and suggest you take into consideration what "aroundincircles" posted about it previous to this post.

Being a 10 year old vehicle design (with some minor interior and exterior refreshments done along the way), its pretty great vehicle. It isn't the newest best thing out there with the latest technology and best powertrain but it gets the job done of moving people and equipment from point A to point B. It won't get you the best mpg but decent gas usage. It won't be the most luxurious but has a better interior than some low end cars (nissan versa). It is very conformable in my opinion. I was thinking of buying a more expensive vehicle but the seats on those fancy vehicles with all their adjustments still can't compete with the chair of the patriot / wrangler (same chair used in the wranglers). It will do better in snow and off road than the crv/rav4/escape and pretty much any other compact suv because of its ground clearance and 4wd system.

It is probably the best value vehicle you can possibly buy especially with the buying incentives.

its my favorite vehicle ive owned and the price for the value is excellent. This forum is awesome as we help one another, and awesome to be around like minded people.

The above statement sums it up pretty much for me.....And I would suggest getting the 2.4 with 6AT and 4x4....Personally myself I think it is one of the best looking SUV's that jeep has next to the wrangler off road ones!

I have owned mine going on 2 1/2 yrs now and it is my first SUV & first 4x4 and I wish I had the money to by a 2017 just to have the last year of these lovely vehicles!

I find the Patriot very comfortable. My wife while riding in the passenger seat, complains that the seat bothers her back. It is a nice, no-frills vehicle -- thus the low price. It is not a vehicle with a lot of "giddyup," at least my 4-cyl CVT model is not. It took a long time to get used to the CVT seemless shifting because when you expect the vehicle to accelerate it does so in an atypical manner (the rpms remain relatively steady instead of a the normal big spike and then drop when shifting to the next gear). It has lots of room in the back seat, but the cargo area in back is smaller than you think. All in all a decent ride. I liked the classic look of the vehicle, which is what first drew me to it.

I just bought a 2016 Jeep Patriot 75th Anniversary Edition. 2.4L 6 speed automatic in silver, now @ 1800KM. Love it so far, I was able to fit a new 55" TV in the box in the back with the seats folded down where my wife's 2016 Kia Sportage couldn't fit it. Love the true jeep feel with the stiffer suspension/off road tires.

Only complaints so far, and I am TRYING!!!! to find stuff:
This model doesn't have a sunglasses holder on the headliner.
Gas mileage coming from a Kia forte car is the most notable difference, being it's a bit (but not a lot) heavier on gas. Wouldn't have hurt to put another 1 or 2 additional gallon capacity in the tank.
The vents in the dash don't allow to mount any accessories (cell phone mount etc).

That about all I can complain about. It's my 2nd favorite vehicle I've owned of about 12 vehicles. (66 Mustang being 1st).

Patriot is one of the nicest jeep around, most of us probably believed its the best vehicle for our need. See if one fit yours and test drive it, then you will feel it yourself if that meets your expectations. Good luck

If you're still shopping keep a couple things in mind:
  • There are many varieties of Patriots, FD1, FD2, Trail-rated, FWD. They look the same but they will perform differently.
  • My Patriot is FWD, bare bones edition. It is great on the highway, gets great MPG, and doesn't fear a snowy road.
  • If you are consistently facing deep snow and steep hills, you need 4wd -- you can't always count on good tires or good luck to get you through.
  • As for durability, mine is sed umostly on-road and rarely gets stressed; the harder your Patriot works, the more and sooner things will break.
  • Mine is OK on dirt roads and trails, but for serious off-roading it would be quickly left behind.
  • The better your vehicle performs in adverse circumstances the poorer your MPG will be, even under ideal conditions.
  • FWD will normally get better MPG than 4wd.
  • Even among the 4wd models fuel economy will vary.

Just saying so you aren't disappointed because you bought the 'wrong' vehicle.
