The pictures were leaked before the Geneva Motor Show, it definitely has the classic Jeep front end, not sure about the last quarter of the vehicle yet I'll reserve PROPER judgement to when I see one in person unlike many internet trolls who bash a car just from pictures (Cherokee a prime example).

So an affordable/capable little 4 wheeler that's not astonomically priced like a JK or JKU, that sounds like a recipe for success... let the success of Jeep roll on.. these I guarantee you now, take my word for it, will sell like hotcakes around the world, also the interior is very nice :notworthy:

EDIT: I've been hearing rumors that the Jeep Renegade will have a removable roof (just roof, not the doors).

When i see this i think----
Patriot + Kia Soul = Jeepster

And if you think about it... that makes sense... this Renegade will be built in Italy while the Compass and Patriot are built in Belvidere, Illinois, the plant is already tooled to build MKs and the Dart. Now the Dart didn't sell as well as Chrysler wanted it to so I think the Patriot and Compass will sell on for a couple more years, they are certainly not hurting the company, it's low cost for Chrysler if you think about, little to nothing has changed for the MK platform since 2011 and they are selling better than ever.

If I were to make an "educated guess" on powertrain I would have to say these are the possibilities:

-1.4L Multiair Turbo (found in Dart and Fiat 500 Abarth)
-2.4L Tigershark (top engine choice)
-And a smaller N/A motor around the 2.0L range that puts out similar HP to the Patriot's banger.
-2.0L turbo diesel or around that displacement, most likely for Asian for European models, we can only pray and hope a diesel option will be available for NA.

And for transmissions...
-6 speed manual
-ZF 9 speed auto (same one found in the Cherokee)

Let's see how my predictions pan out ;) We'll know soon enough......

i like it.
it's boxy and looks like a jeep.
it blends into jeep family.
if they give it a proper fiat diesel multijet engine and trail rate it,it will be a winner.

It's a small vehicle so I would bet the 1.4L Multiair Turbo or 2.0L Tigershark with the 6 speed manual or 6 speed auto. Not sure if there would be enough room under the hood for the ZF 9 speed. I would guess the low range gearing would come from the PTU like is found in the new Cherokee not from the transmission like is found in the Patriot/Compass. Any thoughts?

Seen it. Like the Cherokar, I believe this too is a Fiat on a Jeep 4x4 system. If I wanted a Fiat, I'd get a Fiat, now get them off these nice platforms. In closing, this "Jeep" truly a Renegade makes me feel.......'scuse me a minute........ :puke:

This new Jeep would be a better option for your Baja goals, nice and compact with a modern powertrain, don't knock it till you try it. Your MK isn't configured from the factory to even be modded freely and effectively, hopefully this new Jeep opens up more opportunity for the aftermarket.

And always remember that your Jeep is on a Mitsubushi platform.

I'll reserve judgement 'till I see it in person. Not sure gy the looks if it will haul everything that I currently do, 10' lumber, conduit, even a kayak INSIDE it. I know , why don't I buy a truck with a cap? That would be one more vehicle to add to the fleet, for that specific purpose. Not saying it doesn't appeal in some small way, but the toyota rav was not for me either.

All of which have very poor reliability, The sharing of platform development is common and many manufacturers do so with sister companies. The Ford Focus, Mazda 3, and Volvo S40 are built on a jointly developed platform. Do you call it a Volvo Focus or Ford 3?

It is not that the platforms are European. Chrysler made great use of the E-class Mercedes with the 300/Magnum/Charger/Challenger. It is that Fiat products have a world-wide record of being crap. The 500 is showing that is holding true.

I don't mind it. and like the cherokee, it probably looks better in real life than in pictures.

I would like to hear the specs, if they meet or beat my patriot as far as ground clearance, water fording, etc. Its supposed to have a lot of the tech from the cherokee, which has a transfer case built into the transaxle, so that would be impressive in such a small car. And the roof is supposed to be able to come off. So you can drive roofless, if not doorless too.

from these second pictures of the back and side, it looks pretty good actually. Just wish they would have continued the last window at the bac a little further to cover of up more of the paneling. Looks like it has good approach and departure angles. It also looks to be almost the size of the patriot

I read in Autoweek that Jeep is unveiling a new entry-level model that is based on Fiat's upcoming 500X.
I like the boxy shape, but agree with you ColoradoMan about the tiny back windows. That's been my pet peeve with new cars/SUVs in general; not seeing well behind you because of those small windows they put in the back. I guess that's why so many new autos will have mandatory back-up cameras installed in them.

I've been tracking social media response of the leaked pictures and it's pretty much the same response the Cherokee got... Very negative apathetic comments of people not even knowing the capabilities of the vehicle and yapping off about its sheetmetal.

"Not a jeep"
"Jeep Panda"
"Nissan Cube with Jeep front end"
"Ugliest Jeep ever"

I don't know if you many of you know, but if there's one type of car that social media hates the most and it's anything Mopar, whether it's auto enthusiasts or auto magazines there's a deep down bias that yells to them crappy Dodge, unreliable Chrysler etc. it's sad and frustrating, but you just learn to laugh at the stupid ones :D

Let's see how the Cherokee and Dart hold up, they're using Fiat architecture... But that's where it stops, everything else on those cars is in house American engineered at Chrysler.

This new Renegade is the first vehicle from Fiat/Chrysler where Fiat has more of a role in its development, I asked my sister who works for Chrysler and she Said that engineers she knew would periodically fly out to Italy to help with this program, so this new Jeep has a lot of Fiat influence, NOTHING like anything Chrysler has seen before, it's all been in house developed.

Renegade to replace Compass/Patriot, gets 1.4T with 6M and 2.4 w/ 9 speed Automatic

http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2014/03/2015-jeep-renegade-9-speeds-and-a-manual-only-powertrain/

Our friends at Jalopnik published the first decent photo of the new Jeep Renegade – which shares a platform with the Fiat 500X and replaces the Jeep Patroit/Compass – but kudos to Autoblog for publishing tiny thumbnails of the Trailhawk’s rear end (above is the Trailhawk) and the standard model’s front end. Both are in the gallery below. UPDATE: Two more photos added.

Our sources tell us that North America will get a 1.4T powered version with a 6-speed manual as the sole transmission option. The other engine will be the familiar 2.4L 4-cylinder with a 9-speed automatic. Reports claim that some kind of removable roof will be an option as well.
