Resetting the PCM can do wonders to your performance! I followed the Forced reset procedure and it changed the way my pat handles dramatically. This varies depending on your driving habits. The vehicle only learns for the first 50 key-on cycles, so if you bought it used and have never reset the PCM, it could very well be set to the previous drivers' habits.

Sorry for the delay in getting some pics, I've been busier than usual the past few days and the weather hasn't been too cooperative either.




I've developed some front-end clunking which seemed to come about after some light backroad driving so I'm going to take it back to the dealer where I bought it to have that and the CEL's checked.

 

I had front end clunking. turns out the sway bar linkage was not tightened down enough.

rode in a Compass today.. I don't know what year.. probably recent.. the interior looked kinda cheap.. not that the one in my 2008 Patriot looks expensive but I like the Patriot better.

 

Interiors of Compass/Patriots are identical only difference is going to by the front windshield..............2009+ have a slightly redesigned interior but still identical otherwise

 

FWIW i think the newer style compass looks better than the patriot

Girl Jeep? I bought a 2014 Compass after renting both the Compass and Patriot. My wife could not see stoplights overhead in the Patriot- the windshield is different. And the Compass we drove got much better gas mileage (30 vs 25). I don't think it's girly, just not as macho. Now Subaru- there's a girly vehicle. Marketed not just to metrosexuals, but they have kids hugging trees in their ads. A recent Car Talk column had a question by a Subaru owner whose dealer sold her nitrogen in her tires, and she was worried whether she should buy new tires in case she had a flat and couldn't find nitrogen- no kidding! Show what she knew about cars.

 

Smitty, that is hilarious! I had to share that with my wife, who works at a Jeep dealership that puts nitrogen in all their tires. She just shook her head...:doh:

 

I get gooned all the time over my compass.............honestly EXACTLY the same as a patriot minus a few things on the body, but you know how people like to be vocal on what they thing is good and bad.

I test drove both. Actually I was set on buying the Cherokee, but the Compass won me over. The Cherokee has stitching in the interior and two-tone with frilly little touch screen things. Now that's a girl's car. It does not carry those extra 800 lbs well IMO.

My Compass has a five speed, roll up windows and drum brakes in the back. You can't buy a more manly girl car.

 

I wanted the Compass over the Pat, but the dealer didn't have the Compass I wanted. Now coincidentally I am a girl, but I tend to like manly things, so maybe it evens out. Lol.

While I think the whole class (CRV, Rav4, etc.) are for girls, Jeep never got that connotation for me.

I think their strategy backfired, since the Pat outsells the Compass by 2/1. A lot of women like the Patriot look, it seems. I like it, too, but in the city I need to see the lights through the windshield, and I couldn't in the Pat I tested. It's not a huge thing, but it's a thing.

Also, my Compass was the cheapest new car on the lot.

 

Yeah, what I like about the newer Compass is that the front end looks like the Grand Cherokee; that's what I really wanted, but I decided I'd rather get a lower payment and buy a house instead, so I looked at the Compass/Pat.

The Patriot look grew on me though. I like the retro look a lot... And I think that's why it sells so well too.

 

I wanted a 2011 Grand Cherokee when I bought my Compass, I couldn't justify the extra 15000 at the time, really wish I would have in retrospect, but now that I have the Compass decals off the side of my vehicle people ask what it is now.

 

Compassed15 said the same thing my wife said, "I can't see the traffic lights in the Patriot", so I bought her a Compass. After two years and 40,000 miles, we are happy with it.

 

I originally looked at the Compass but I didn't like how I had to look over the hood compared to the Patriot. I can't see the lights either but I just look over at the one that is usually on the right. I am 6' 3" so having to look over a hood for me is saying alot.

 

I rented a compass once when my patriot was in for repair. The only difference that I took note of was the huge blind spot created by the sloped rear end. Hated that. When I bought my patriot the salesman showed me a few other vehicles and even a compass but the pat was the only one that I liked the styling and the drive of it. I was sold on it after a 5 minute test drive.

 

One thing to remember when comparing sales figures of both cars. The compass is sold in other countries and the U.S. sales figures don't reflect that. I tried to get a true monthly assembly no. once but nothing came up. Both cars have great sale incentives on them. Grab one. American designed and assembled here. In America. I think 72% American. The six speed tranny might be shipped from Seoul not sure.
