I share your opinion of Goodyear tires. Few seem to last very long and the GY Wranger RTSs I put on my old Wrangler delivered outrageously poor traction. Why Jeep would ever have used them as OEM on a Wrangler is beyond me. Maybe it was the name -- Wranglers on a Wrangler? It certainly wasn't the tire. Who cares how long they might have lasted? I got rid of them as soon as I realized how bad they were. My Wife usually drove the Wrangler and complained about them; Her brother drove it once and didn't like them, either. Soon after when snow was predicted I asked my Wife to trade vehicles where I'd parked at the bus station, so when I came back from Boston late that night I'd have the Wrangler for the snow (instead of my Pontiac that I was normally driving at the time). My 15 mile ride home was a white-knuckle trip! I would have preferred the Pontiac (with Michelin Harmonies). I promptly replaced the RTSs with General RT43s and have pretty much stayed with General ever since.
Curiously, maybe the best snow tires I've had were the Dunlop Grandtreks that I bought from another member on this site -- I only wanted the wheels, but the tires came mounted and the whole package was a bargain price. The Grandtreks lasted several season and delivered outstanding snow traction. IIRC, Dunlop is owned by Goodyear. I would expect the parent company to put their own name on the better tires.
