The date on the door was the assembly line date. That would be the "worst case" start.

 

Any dealership can tell you. Also you have the three year "bumper to bumper" not just powertrain. Covers everthing but normal wear items.

 

Where did you bought that patriot? It is only the person/dealer who can tell the "in service date".

 

The in service date is the day of original sale. If you are the first owner, you should know this. If you are not, the only way to know is to have a dealer look it up by VIN.

Interesting. Mine is an '08 too and has the lifetime powertrain warranty. But I guess that really doesn't matter too much as I'm thinking of trading it for an '11 model year Pat.

are you the original owner? i thought the lifetime powertrain warranty only applied if you are the original owner. otherwise, it's a 3-year warranty.

Yes I am original owner. I didn't know the next owner would get a warranty at all, so that's cool.

I have almost 50,000 miles on it, almost 2 years old, and with the model dieing off soon, I thought I'd trade for a newer model and hold on to it.

 

The next owner will not get any warranty. The 3/36k bumper to bumper goes with the vehicle but the lifetime does not. Since your over 36k when you trade it off it is without warranty.

 

The in service date is important to know for folks with the lifetime warranty. We have to have it inspected every five years.

 

The 5yr inspection only matters to original owner as the lifetime powertrain warranty does not transfer. The original owner should have records on that "in service date".

 

how can i find this "in service" date? is it listed on the door panel or anywhere else?

When the dealership puts your VIN into their computer, your vehicle's in-service date appears right there on their screen along with what, if any, warranties are still active. This is whether you are the original owner or not and regardless of where the vehicle was purchased. Any dealer can look it up for you.
