How happy are you with your Pat's (with CVT) acceleration?

so far cvt fd1 is in the lead maybe break it down a little more by year? Not sure if that makes a difference because I have low gear and no auto stick mine is 2007

This thing isn't going to accelerate like an Enzo, it'll accelerate like a brick with an engine. It's pretty fast for what it is. 5 or 6 seconds to 60mph w/ autostick.
(PS, ours is a downgrade-2L gas engine)

I think the original poster wanted to know about the CVT exclusively.. because at least around here, you couldn't find a manual if your life depended on it anyways.

I went with FDII is better than expected. All I know is that if one is not careful the acceleration can be more than the handling can handle. To me that is the mark of decent acceleration.

I agree with a poster in another thread. If you come from 4 cylinders you will feel the acceleration is very good, if you come from something else you might not feel that way.

Across all 3 CVT types, only 3 out of 14 votes so far have been for "awful".

So 78% of you are happy with the acceleration.

i would have to disagree

I am always waiting for the pat to catch up to the rpms
Doesn't matter whether its 3k or 6k rpms, the engine revs and the pat takes its time to catch p,
Used to a few different 4cyl. Neon/volvos/4cyl 80's mustang
Except for the 90 volvo 240 dl they all ran circles around the pat.
Never had a car or 4cyl that when you gave it gas it didn't move you back in your seat

My other car is a 02 neon 2.0L, and he is punchier than the pat, but he weights quite a bit less.

Each pat is a little different too, that is something I have noticied by being on this forum. There is a lot of variety as far as the unique characteristics of each pat. I rarely gun the pat, but I did the other day and it really caught me off guard how quick he was.

Anyway, I have noticied that you can maximize his acceleration by doing a little feathering once you start to climb higher in the rpm's but that is just mine.

It isn't a rocket ship, but it does have more punch than I expected. Maybe, I just have low expectations.:)

Had a 4 hour trip yesterday, mostly turnpike driving (including about 1 hour of bumper to bumper Friday rush hour Philadelphia traffic), averaged 24.1 mpg, had it on cruise with ac blastin and was passing everyone out when possible without a problem.

I don't drive with a heavy foot. My Patriot CVT FDI is just fine for me, and I'm tickled with the MPGs. That's what it is all about in my book.

If I feel the need for speed, I'll sign a vehicle out of Hubby's fleet...he's got enough to go around. :)

actually im surprised. today leaving work a kid (i say kid, even though he was probabally bout my age) pulled up next to me in an Imprezza I'm assuming STI or WRX because it sounded turboed, but not sure. But he pulled up and started showing off and when the light turned green he took off and being next to him i felt the need to catch up and i did got up to about 60mph, heard him shift in fourth (hence the reason i know its turboed). And I actually caught him and then passed him. I'm sure if he wanted he could have blown me away but I caught him in a short distance and actually passed him and held him bout a car and a half behind me till I got to a light and had to make a turn then he shifted again and took off. I dont think he expected me to stay with him but I did lol

Voted for "better than expected" on my CVT2L FDII. Reason is, through research on this site & reviews, sort of knew it wasn't going to be great on acceleration, especially with the FDIIs. But it surprised me; after taking delivery, it has been able to keep up to all traffic on any given situation!

Admittedly I am bit confused by the poll. The Patriot like most Jeeps are not really known for acceleration. Perhaps a coupe would be a better choice for those who what a quick start off the line.

Satisfied w/the power on my fwd CVT (previous owner of big & small block-powered pony cars)....I can't imagine the Pat's power rating & performance would be that dissimilar from its 4-cylinder, auto-equipped competitors like the CRV, RAV4, Escape, Tribute, Vitara, etc....could it?
