I've followed the instructions provided in the manual for our 2009 North to deactivate the horn when locking the car, and it simply does NOT work. Any ideas?

Parked... hit the EVIC button until you see Personal Settings. Press and hold... then start looking for the option of the horn/security. Once the screen comes up, you depress again real quick. You should see it show "No" now.

I had difficulty myself trying to get the key fob procedures to work.
What I found to work:

Stand outside the Jeep.
Be sure to start with the Jeep unlocked.

Follow the procedure from the manual:

On non EVIC – equipped vehicles perform the following steps:
1. Press the LOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds (I counted to 7 to make sure I wasn't counting too fast. Doors will lock and Jeep will honk).
2. While the LOCK button is pressed (after 4 seconds), press the PANIC button. Release both buttons. (Doors will lock again but no honk)
After many failed attempts from inside the vehicle this worked for me the first time I tried it from outside the vehicle.
Standing outside the vehicle also worked for the other settings.

Good luck.

Thanks, I'll try your timing, but I've always tried it from outside the car.

1. Press the LOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds.
2. While the LOCK button is pressed (after 4 seconds), press the PANIC button. Release both buttons.

My son said to pull the fuse on the horn and no more problem...

(SLAP!!!!!)

I did to him like Special Agent Gibb's does to his agents on the TV show NCIS... I slapped him on the back of the head. I also recited the Patriot Commandment to him...

"Thou shall not jest thy fathers Patriot!"
