I just put down a deposit on the below car today and I have been reading that the trail rated Patriot has tow hooks in the front, but I did not see these on the car, despite the trail rated badge.... Am I getting duped here?

Thank you ... so it looks like the previous owner of the vehicle I am buying just purchased the badges and stuck them on ...

This is a 2008 by the way. I see no tow hooks and the gear shifter only went to D, no L...

I'm going to demand my deposit back since I was especially excited to get the trail rated version...

If you're dead set on a fd2 and have the cash and time to wait for one then I probably wouldn't buy it.

Because if you want those specific items and you buy that car then you will just be spending money buying them and time installing.

Not to mention you can't add low to a Fd1.

Yeah that price seems high when you consider it's coming up on 9 model years old, and you can buy a brand new leftover 2015 Patriot for $13.5k if you don't mind a manual tranny and non-4x4.

Our dealer where we got ours has 2016 4x4's for $16k with auto transmission (6 speed, non CVT). Of course, these are Sport trims so power windows would be extra. But it does have AC, cruise control, am/fm/CD.

I would have been suspicious based on the badge alone. I believe that's a knock off and not mopar. Unless the Patriot was different in those years. I believe my 05 TJ and '10 Commander are both on a dark gray background. I think it was only recently that Jeep began making it a red background. I don't believe it was ever that light grey/silver background like the Patriot in question.

The suspected (all but confirmed?) fake:

To the OP, now that I think about it, I wouldn't pay anywhere near $9k for that Patriot unless it has complete service records available showing that it never missed an oil change (within at least a reasonable mileage range) and transmission service. And people and dealerships being what they are, I am sure it has no records with it.

I prefer to buy privately from the original owners, that way you are more likely to obtain service records, and you can see their house to get an idea if they are careful people or not. I got top dollar for my mom's used Jetta because she had complete service records for it.

Without the records, I'd go like $7k tops for that Patriot.

dont feel so bad. I paid 11k for an 08 sport with 86k miles lol. it does have the tilting rear seats and fold flat up front though. Those have come in handy. Not really worth paying 2k over, but it was more of a "Can I buy this" situation rather than a "This is the car I really want" so I ended up biting the bullet. 2.5 years and a refinance later and I'm finally under BB in payments!

Over on the portal, Christophe noel compared both the forester and the patriot. he said, the forrester is better on the pavement and the jeep is miles ahead on the dirt.

Thank you all for all the replies and info. After showing the dealer that the car was not trail rated, they did not hesitate to refund my deposit.

On a more positive side, I was able to locate two cars I like, the first is a 2010 Patriot (non trail rated) with 77k miles on it (cvt and hand crank windows) for $9k, the second is a 2008 Liberty (trail rated) with 87k miles and panoramic roof for $10.4k. I like the look and the rugged feel of the Liberty and love that roof, but at same time it worries me about leaks and snow load ... I'm leaning towards the Patriot for it's better safety ratings, better gas mileage, and more agile feel. And this Patriot deal is definitely better than the previous :)

Yeah and having to carry 4000+ lbs it also feels sluggish. Good to know the panoramic roof is plagued with issues, will make me miss it less... I plan to keep this car outside the garage most of the time so it will be snowed and rained on regularly..

Thx for the links, will check them out.
