Has anyone pluged a glade scented oil plugin into the outlet of their patriot?

I think its a swell idea over those scented pine trees dangleing from rearview mirror.

My new car smell is startin to wear off and im looking into someting new.

what do you think?

YUCK!

Dude, keep the Patriot clean. Pass on the "fake clean" scent trying to cover up rotting food, BO, and the like. When you spray air freshener after doing some business on your throne you just end up with flower scented dookie smell.

It is your vehicle, but I would never use that, a tree, or even a Yankee candle scented thing. An air freshener hanging from a rearview or a plug-in on the wall/conveince outlet screams "I smell bad".

I just want a nice scent. other than "car air".
Those windows will roll down so you can enjoy the nice fresh air outside of the Jeep!

The outlet, someone correct me if this is not so, is only on when you have the vehicle running or the ignition turned on. Therefore a plug-in freshener wouldn't work unless you were driving.

I don't know if I would use one with the oil. I have one in the house and they tend to get a little oily. I'm not against trying. I know at Wal Mart my husband found this air freshner that you clip to the air vent. It's a circle and you slip it to the vent. Thinking of it, I don't have any vanilla trees in my Jeep. I don't hang them from the rearview, I hate them hanging there. I find a low spot where no one can see it.

I put one of those glade plug-ins in the outlet...some issues?
1) They are designed for a whole room/house, your jeep doesn't exactly have a lot of cubic air space compared to a room. Thus, they heavily scent the vehicle.
2) Most of the ones I looked at kept the arm rest from closing completely. This means that when you hit some bumps etc...it tends to jiggle loose.
FYI...I smoke in the Jeep, yeah yeah I know...but plugging a small one in from time to time keeps my jeep from really smelling like an ashtray.

Do they have plugins with new car smell? I'd probably be interested in that. :)

Heck I've had my jeep for almost 3 months and people get in and it says wow clean car smell. Plus I've heard that those things cause fires I don't know how true it is but I won't be putting one of those in my jeep.
That's not really true. Snopes link

My chick uses those plug-ins around the house and they are STRONG. Talk about overkill, and if it is that overpowering in a livingroom, imagine in a small car cabin... yuck. If you start missing that new car smell just get some good quality rubber floormats. I just put some in my 2007 about a month ago and they have a very subtle and good rubbery smell. Everyone who gets in my Pat now mentions wants to know how my jeep still has that new car smell to it. You can't go wrong with a 2 for 1 floormat and airfreshener combo.

I say go for it. A nice clean linen scent is what I'd choose. No problem with the outlet. It goes off when the ignition's off; or so says my phone when it's on charge. I agree about the oil pot types maybe getting a little oozy. A nice glade gel insert with the smaller holder ought to work fine.

(You can tell me, Jeepkid, is it a flatulence problem?)

Remember that the new car smell is mostly vapors that come off of the plastics and vinyls (along with some from the cloth). So if you are tired of that smell (what, are you a commie??!!;)) then opening the windows and leaving them open for as long as you can will help get rid of that smell. (yes, it could take a while). That beats hell out of trying to cover it up with anything.
If you don't remove the the offendng odor, you'll just have that AND your fruity smell in the cab. Not a good combo.

FWIW, we have had our new since Sept (if I recall correctly) and I can still smell that new car fragrance when I first get in the Pat. Gawd I love that smell!!:D

Why use a plug in? As the car naturally heats in the sun it'll release the oils, so don't waste your money on these, and pull electric out of your engine when you don't need to. Myself, I put fresh ground coffee in a paper bag in my car, it smells awesome (though I am a coffee fan!) and when the smell goes away it can be used as fertilizer for plants, and, it has no noxious gasses.

Speaking of that new car smell, when my mom purchased a new Camry, I almost vomited at the new car smell that poured out of it. I am not sure what they use (probably asbestos) in their materials, but it sure does smell bad. I would rather be dutch-ovened by my wife then smell a new Toyota.

They say you can put some Bounce dryer sheets under the seats and the scent last just as long for a fraction of the price.

That bounce dryer sheet is an old restorers trick I was taught. I bought my son his first truck and it was a smokers truck. STUNK like hell, but I lined all horizontal surfaces with those dryer sheets (a whole damned box worth!), rolled up the windows and left it overnight like that. Next morning...nuttin. Not one odor. I flat-out could NOT believe it. Thankfully I haven't had to resort to that trick since then, but I'll never forget it. Cheapest odor removal system around!
