Gas Mileage

I have noticed the mpg I get with my Patriot and I am quite pleased. I calculated the mileage and it comes out to almost 26.8 Also given the fact that I do not get out much, my fuel lasts quite a while.

Recently the wife and I made a trip to see my sister, the Jeep sipped the fuel :)
Not to mention that the Jeep rode comfortable, cruised at 80mph for a bit. All in all I am quite pleased with my ride :) I still have low mileage....67k...In three years I have put about 10k miles.

I take good care of her :)

My patriot is a 2016 with a CVT. :)
I'm glad you love your Patriot. I love mine, too. Sad to have parted with my 2008 but I'm hanging onto my 2014 as long as I can. Mine is dependable and quite economical. I have the 2.0/5-spd.

Hopefully you have had the CVT fluid and both filters changed before this. If not, make it a priority. The owners manual is OTL on the recommended service. Keep the juice fresh and clean and you've got many happy miles ahead! I wish you good luck! :)

Some do, but I've never done tranny service. I'd rather pay and have it done right. Do you have a decent dealer? Some dealers decline because they say it is a sealed unit (not true). Others point to the owners manual and say it's not due yet (true, but wrong). Many independent shops are shy about it because they don't want to get blamed if there follows a problem (sad, but they've got to cover themselves). A dealer should do it. If they won't, reach out to JeepCares on this site.

you could have done it yourself, it’s not that hard of a job to do. But oh well. You might want to ask them to reuse the original gasket for the CVT pan, those cheap rubber gaskets that come with the filter kit aren’t all that great (if that’s what you purchased). Make sure they fill the fluid to the proper level; there’s a way to do it right. I would suggest that you order this dipstick online so you can check the level of fluid on your own. You’ll need a way to measure the temperature of the transmission fluid, you can do it with a scan tool that can access the transmission module, or you can use the Jscan App to do it.

Here’s links to the dipstick: https://a.co/d/iBSI8oA

You’ll need this to connect Jscan to your Patriot: https://a.co/d/5XRZybY

The dipstick should come with the chart but here’s one just in case

That would be a 2.4L I4. No V4s in Jeeps since the 1960s. However, I agree that your fuel economy should be better. My FWD 2.4 delivered about 28MPG typically, and over 30 on the highway. Spark plugs are frequently neglected because most cars have 100,000 mile plugs and Patriot plugs are only good for 30,000 so people don't think about them.

My 2015 has over 362k and saw 26mpg this year.

Wow!!!!!! Gives me hope that my 2014 (bought 3/2013) can last a while more. Only 135,000 now. Krown rust proofing has kept the rust at bay. Except for throttle body replacement, mostly just been normal wear/tear items. Keeping fingers crossed. Except maybe the Ford Maverick, nothing else in today's market excites me. Thanks for sharing.

I just thought I would post my experience with fuel economy here for reference. I drive a 2015 Jeep Compass Sport 2WD 2.0L with the CVT. It sat in my moms garage for 5 years straight, and when I came home I knew I would need to do a bunch of maintenance before I could drive it comfortably and safely.

When I first got it running again, I was lucky to get 200 miles on a tank. After all my maintenance and repairs, I now get 300+ miles when the low-gas light comes on. These are the things I did to my vehicle:

Oil change + filters
Cleaned the K&N air filter
Cleaned out the air box and replaced the foam PCV filter
New battery + terminals
CVT fluid change + both filters
Replaced broken CVT fill tube
New spark plugs and coils -
Flushed coolant
New rotors + pads
New drums + shoes

One last thing to note: my mileage around town isn’t great, but on the highway, with spring/summer temps and assuming the Kansas winds aren’t fighting me along the way, I’m getting the numbers I mentioned earlier. But I also keep my highest speeds 65-70mph tops. I also drive in a way that my RPM’s stay as close to 2000 as possible, letting my speed drop on higher hills to maintain the RPM, and not romping on the gas when I drive around town. I speed up gradually and I drive my vehicle easy.

Just chiming in. I agree that 2000 RPMs seems to be the sweet spot for our Patriots. My 2014 runs a little higher on the expressway but doesn't complain. I average around 30s MPG and a tad better on a longer trip. Making a 1000 mile round trip to northern Maine a few years ago I averaged 33.5MPG and that included a lot of turnpike miles at 75MPH. That was 5+ years ago and I don't think I'd run the ol' boy that hard at his present age (10 years 220,000 miles).
