I plan on asking a friend of mine to build me a push bar (steal, painted black). I've been working on a design for a couple of weeks, looking at different options. I had considered the Big country euroguard for $379.99 but I find it a bit too bulky. Also looked at the Bull Bars which would run about $280 + delivery...

Trying to keep it as light and inexpensive as possible, I've worked it down to 3 options. I think I like the third one the most. What do you think ?

Option 4 (My wife thinks the others are too small) Think I like this one.

If my buddy signs on to build it, I'll start on a cardboard template.

I'm with your wife...I like the lights inboard not out on tabs like the others and the width matters.

get as wide as you can leaving the fogs exposed.

see what option 4 looks like with the driving lights hung below the top rail, upside down if you will. That leaves the 7 slot visually clear but might not look as great as I see it in my mind.

So my vote is for #4 with the lights inside the bar, hanging from the top piece.

Option 5

@Metaxa - That looks cool! but it won't work for me, the lights will partially hide my licence plate. Licence plate is exactly the width of the 3 center slots.
I also notice that the side plates would need to come out further ahead unless the lights were sticking out in front, which isn't necessarily bad... mind you, I'd be "pushing" with the lights...

I don't have fogs right now but I might want some later.

Looks good, for someone who doesn't have a front end licence plate.

Cardboard Template

My buddy's willing to build it, so I built a cardboard template, stuck it to Pat with masking tape and took some pictures. Using Photoshop, I duplicated the template, colored it and drew in some bars.

Let me know what you think...

Now with a template, he should be able to get me an estimate...

Mounting points

So far, the plan is this...

Remove some of the plastic bumper / skid plate. Drill and mount 4 bolts, locations on the picture. Re-install the plastic and slide on the rack.

The only place I plan to cut any plastic is a couple of small holes, 1" x 1/4" max, at the 2 bottom locations.

With that mounting scheme it is going to be more decorative than functional...not that there is anything wrong with that, its how I'd go, me, myself, personally.

So I would make it as light as possible...out of aluminum for instance.

It is going to look good...please document it, we;d all love to see the birth and install I'm sure.

If you end up with template/plans/CAD/parts list or anything that is able to be duplicated and emailed or snail mailed I'll bet there are some who would make it worth your while to send it along too.

My buddy loves doing this stuff, it's a hobby for him and he's really good at it. He'd probably be willing to make more of them if someone was interested. He suggested using aluminum, it's a little more expensive but lighter, never rusts,... but how would you paint it?

At this point, the estimate's gonna decide if it gets done or not.

Still haven't decided where I'll put the light mounts, though I am leaning towards option 4.

Metaxa, what happened??? Did someone sh!t in your cornflakes? You couldn't find a picture of yourself smiling?
