Compass/Patriot Sales Mentioned in USA Today

The lowly Jeep MK models were mentioned in a recent USA Today article pointing out "surprises" for 2014 November vehicle sales. Compass sales were up 16% and Patriot sales were up a whopping 47% compared to last year. Last November (2013), Compass was up 31% and Patriot had its largest sales ever.

Good for them! Still not in the top 20, but a notable achievement for an old platform.

yeah I think the 6 cylinder helped sales the most. makes me wonder if the patriot will extend and continue past 2016

I sure hope they keep them going. I wouldn't mind buying another after mine is paid off. I would opt for a latitude with 4 wheel drive next time I think, then give my current rig to my wife or something.

Combined sales for the Patriot and Compass have been right up there with the other Jeep models for a few years now. People just don't realize it because they are counted as separate models.

I do wonder if Jeep is making the right moves if (as rumor has it) the replacement will be more Compass-like in appearance. The Patriot has outsold the Compass by significant margins pretty much every month all along, the only exception being when they launched and Compass came first. Seems like an indication that the bodystyle is a popular aspect of its success, with the Cherokee already covering for those who want something a bit more upscale and "modern" in styling.

Yeah, I think that is the wrong move for sure. I don't consider the Renegade a good replacement for the Patriot at all. If anything, that little ugly thing is a good replacement for the Compass.

Kind of hope it fails for Dodge and they go back to a more boxy, regular Jeep look like the Patriot has.

I wish the media would stop referring to the Renegade as "replacement" for the Patriot. Renegade is a replacement for the Patriot only in the sense that it takes up a slot in the lineup of vehicles that will be freed up when the Patriot and Compass are replaced by whatever single vehicle succeeds them in their class. Renegade is a new vehicle in a different class.

I had a discussion with a Jeep sales rep and we both noted how successful the new Cherokee sales have been. I told him I think it's because they have advertised it. I have never seen an ad for the Patriot/Compass, even though they are great vehicles. Chrysler has treated them like step children, for some reason. I agree with the comment above about the 6-speed I waited for it and I'm glad I did. My neighbor just bought a 2014 Cherokee today, so tomorrow I get a chance to see it and drive it (and compare it to mine).

In retrospect, I think a Cherokee purchase might have been better than the Patriot, considering the price I paid for my 2014 Limited, but at the end of the day, the dealer had better rebates and could work what I already owed on my Journey when I traded it in, so I'm pretty sure they couldn't have made a Cherokee work.

With all that being said, the thing I don't like about the Cherokee is it looks like everything else on the road. Like a Kia Sorrento, or a Hyundai Sante Fe, etc. They all look the same. That's why I really liked the Patriot the first time I saw it. It simply looked different and looked more like a Jeep. The salesman at the time tried to talk me into a Compass instead and to me it just looked like a scaled down version of all those other vehicles and nothing special.

there just isn't enough margin to support Patriot sales, although i would think that the margin would be huge now since the tooling was likely paid off years ago. it's been essentially the same vehicle since 2007 with some upgrades

i think it's impressive that it has lasted this long, just goes to show that while the media knocks the Patriot, it continually surprises everyone

If a compass is nothing special neither is your patriot, as they are both the same thing. Can't fault anyone for not liking the looks of the compass. I wanted wk2 grand Cherokee but didn't get one and the compass kind of looks like them, so that's how I ended up with mine.

lol...I meant to put a caveat in there for you. I knew you would come knocking to defend your Compass. Apologies. My point was, it was nothing special to me because of the same styling that I was talking about in all those other vehicles. Not as a vehicle overall.

I drove my neighbor's Cherokee today, and I liked it. It was heavier and felt more solid than my 2014 Compass. With the V-6 it was more powerful and quieter, rode smoother. But it is not much bigger, just looks bigger (I didn't like the looks but the interior is fancier). I liked the looks of the Patriot but bought the Compass because my wife liked it better and it seems more like a car than the Patriot (the Cherokee seems even more like a car). The upright windshield on the Pat makes the interior seem more like a pickup, and it's harder to see stop lights. I was impressed with the new Cherokee. I've had earlier Cherokees and this one is much more car-like. I can see why they are selling well against Subaru, RAV4, CRV, Escape, etc.

If I was looking for a SUV for the lady of the house, I would push for the Cherokee because it's still an American logo. That means a lot in our neck of the woods. Cherokee is still cheaper than the Equinox etc. and still has some saving grace. But my Patriot will be collecting dust in my driveway in the end. I'm happy with the Pat.

After i purchased my MK 3 of my family members bought one since they liked mine so much. Two of them bought Patriots and one of the a Rally Compass? Not sure what trim that is but it comes with Jeep Offroad lights from the factory. They love them. Seeing these sales figures does not surprise me. They also said another big reason for getting one is that it was the most affordable SUV/Crossover they could find.
