Clunk, clunk, clunk sound

After 131,000 trouble free miles a weird problem started on my '07 2.4 CVT 2wd
Pat started. When coming up to a red stop light doing 35mph and coasting down
to about 20mph and the light goes green, the Jeep will make a clunking sound as
I speed up to around 35mph and the noise fades away. I can only duplicate this
sound when slowing down and then speeding up. The noise is on the driver's
side only. I checked the 1/2 shaft and it is tight and no leaks around the boots.
The rest of the front suspension seems tight also. Does this sound like a
transmission issue? No other symptoms so far. Any ideas? Don't want to go
near a dealer unless absolutely necessary.

Woah, this literally started with mine a few days ago. I just recorded it today while pulling out of my driveway. It's exactly as you described it, a clunk, clunk, clunk, and then some creaking. Hear it while coming to a stop and initial acceleration. It seems like it's coming from the rear end, but I have no idea what it might be. It does not seem to be affecting how the car drives at all either.

I just hit 118,000mi btw

Both of my fronts are leaking grease and shaking under acceleration, but no clicking noises from them yet. The passenger rear one is leaking from its connection into the diff. The noise on mine is definitely coming from the rear, so would you say it's the cv back there then? Took mine to the local shop this afternoon for issues I'm having with my brakes, and I also mentioned this sound to them. I should hear back from them tomorrow about what they find

Jeepcares: I took my Pat in for complete front end check and they could fine nothing
worn. They re-torqued the driver's side lug nuts and it now appears to be fixed. I will
drive it for a few days to be sure. This is weird if it is indeed fixed. I have the mag-style
Jeep wheels and maybe the correct torque is critical.
