Those of us who have been struggling with leaks blamed on the Patriot's sunroof appear to have someone fighting for us.. I found this today:

Keefe Bartels files Class Action Suit against Chrysler Group, LLC
Red Bank, NJ: The trial lawyers of Keefe Bartels, LLC have, with Poulos LoPiccolo PC and the Law Offices of Peter Lucas LLC, filed a class action complaint against Chrysler Group, LLC (Case 3:12-cv-00760-PGS-DEA). Brought on behalf of plaintiffs Jay Miller and Brooke Willman, the complaint fundamentally alleges that the Chrysler 300 series, and the Jeep Patriot, Liberty, Compass, Commander, Cherokee and Grand Cherokee models for the years 2006 to the present, have defective, leaking sunroofs.

My favorite quote from the press release.. sad but true: "Chrysler claims its products, especially the Jeeps, can handle all sorts of terrible conditions, churning through muddy swamps, climbing mountains, and crossing rivers. Turns out they cannot even handle a car wash."

They might get something accomplished with the vehicles built post bankruptcy/Fiat but they are going to be SOL with the earlier models. Part of the bankruptcy/Fiat deal was that Chrysler would still cover warranty on any vehicles that have a valid warranty built before a certain date( tied into the bankruptcy and Fiat deal )BUT as far as class action suits and liability for things not covered by warranty Chrysler is off the hook.

What about the rest of us w/o sunroofs that have/had leaking through the rear dome light? I'm pretty sure 90% of these rear end leaking issues are related to the washer hose. Its been almost 2 years since I sealed the rear hose grommet with black silicone and its been bone dry.

A "JEEP" should come with a canvas top that is little better than an umbrella. It was when that added all this fancy pants crap that Jeep got itself in trouble. Back to basics.

just curious,
for those with the leaks
are these factory installed sunroofs?
or dealer installed sunroofs?
dealer installed sunroofs generally use aftermarket sunroofs with the pushbutton on the roof panel,
factory installed sunroofs generally have rolled edges where they install the sunroof and button is usually on the dash somewhere,
just curious if those with leaks are from the factory or dealer installed,
just because you ordered a car with sunroof doesnt always mean its a factory sunroof,

Dont forget the roof can also leak through the roof welds where the roof rails are attached , even if you don't have a sunroof !!

I had my sunroof replaces under warranty because the glass was not straight...kinda warped, and my rear hatch resealed about three years ago. No problems since...but it would be nice to see a resolution for everyone on the issue.

That is hilarious - I can't even park mine upwards on a hill!

i have the mopar wind deflector for the sunroof, yes it is leaking in from the rubber seal that is around the glass, but from the front end, I suspect the deflector mount is creating a mm gap, i stuck my finger there during a car wash and started feeling the wetnes and then the drips, when it leaks it leaks right on top of the roof liner which rivers into the dome light, so at the end dome light leaks like an open tap when all the water from a rainy day pools in...

couple of things to check:
Sunroof seal
Sunroof mechanism
glass warp
mopar air deflector defect

I keep u all posted

I dropped my Patriot off at the body shop last night to have some bodywork done, and when I was in the on-site Hertz location, there was a woman in there who was clearly peeved. The Hertz rep asked her what was being done to her car. She said she had just bought a Compass two months ago and there are a myriad of things wrong with it, including a sunroof leak... I wanted to chime in but I don't think that would have helped...

Dealer just called and said leak was from the sunroof and it is fixed now. They also replaced my radio since the lights of my radio was gone due to the leak... They also did a free oil change due to inconvenience... All under warranty! No charge! I am going to pick it up sat and test it in a car wash...

Hope they did a good job...

Hey guys, we have a 2009 Limited with the Sun and Sound package. After the first leak incident I asked the service manager about warranty. He said it was probably the drain lines clogged up and that is NOT covered under warranty. I was mad, but no problem (I can check that). Open sunroof and poured water near both front holes and down the metal rail that leads to the back holes (driver side and passenger side). Sure enough the passenger side front was not flowing. It was not that our sunroof was leaking, but that the water could not flow out. This caused water to come out front dome lights, front pillar, and back dome lights. I have had to clean the drain lines out several times, but when they are clean there is no water coming in the cab. When clogged, the water will get too high and go above the metal rail and run into the cab causing mine to look as if it was leaking, but really it can't get rid of the water fast enough when one of the four holes is blocked. I am not saying that some of these sunroofs are not leaking, but this has been our experience. I hope this may help someone keep their interior dry. I will never buy another Chrysler product with a sunroof. By the way, our third brake light leaks as well. Good luck staying dry in a Patriot:D

multi leak points

This year I purchased a 2010 Patriot that was a corporate vihicle with only 125 miles on it only to discover the dreaded roof leak! A trip to the dealer for checking and repairing the suspected sunroof drain hoses ended in continued leaking even though the dealer had proclaimed it "fixed".

I decided to take matters into my own hands and did some investigation with a garden hose and someone inside the car to spot for leaks. My first leak discovery was in the rear hatch area in the upper right hand side there was about a 1/4" hole where the seams had not been filled. I fixed that with some RTV. That took care of the rear leak. I discovered another leak with the sunroof, and, since the vehicle had it on already, and that I do not use it I took the "brute force" approach. I ran a small bead of RTV around the gap on the top of the sun roof. I then removed the fuse so no one could accidently try to open it. Several car washing and torrential downpours later, not a single drop inside!

I hope I dont go through this. I always wanted a jeep when I was a kid, and I finally bought one with sun and sound package, and I come from toyota and Nissan cars where I dont have problems like this. I traded an 11 Sentra SR special edition for my jeep, and I hope I dont have to regret it. We have had chrysler cars in the past and no problems, so I expect none from this one either.

I know this is an old thread but I called the law office on the first page today. They said their lawsuit is for vehicles 2009 or newer.... FYI

2008 or older they can do anything with because of the bankruptcy
