Drive it the same as my Tracker, and the Tracker hits the drive way more than the Jeep. I've mostly driven the Tracker back and forth to home on the weekends to save miles on the Jeep.

Tracker has over 205,000 miles on it.

Makes me glad I bought the lifetime warranty, but it still doesn't instill a lot of confidence. Congrats on getting your Jeep back! I am curious to know about the check engine light too. Based on the parts break down, it sounds like they rebuilt the engine? I would have guess you'd have gotten a crate motor

What!
What lifetime guarantee?

Looking at the parts list, looks like a new short block, new cam gears, timing chain and tensioners and a new cylinder head (along with new assorted gaskets, bolts and washers). Assembly of the complete engine was clearly done by the dealer (ie. bolt new head onto new short block, install cam gears and chains then install all engine covers). Something definitely grenaded bad inside there if the cylinder head wasn't salvageable. A rod must have let go and sent a piston slamming into the cylinder head and bending valves.

And this actually wasn't the first mention of an out of the blue engine blowing. We had a one time poster start a thread about dropping a rod and Jeep not paying for it or covering it. It was his sons up at college and the dealer claimed the oil filter was loose which caused a no oil situation. We sort of laid into him a little (some more then others :icon_rolleyes:) and he left.

He got laid into because they kept driving it AFTER they discovered it was losing oil at a rapid rate and the engine was making noise rather than having it towed immediately. They were mad at the dealer and blaming them for a situation they made infinitely worse. As I recall the kid took it back to where he was living after discovering the problem( noise, smoke, oil everywhere, etc... )then drove it again later over to the dealer or a mechanic. Something like that. Main point being they kept driving it after a serious condition was observed. They screwed themselves.

His Patriot is older and was covered under the factory Lifetime Power Train Warranty( Covered 07-09 models ). Starting with 2010 it went to 5 years/100K.
My 2012 has a Lifetime Powertrain Warranty throught the dealer, Jim Shorkey Kia/Suzuki. Those warranties are still out there, you just have to find the dealers that participate.:Racing:

I bought mine through a Jeep dealer that sold them online. You can also buy them for used vehicles up to a point, but the price goes up a lot depending on mileage

I understand that but it is not the same as Dixie's as you had to buy yours or it was included as part of the deal by a dealer as an incentive. Also, you can buy a Chrysler extended LPTW at any dealer( US anyway ). It isn't a participating only type of deal. Any dealer can set you up with an extended OEM warranty.

Howver, Dixie's was the factory LPTW that came with the vehicle at no additional cost as the standard powertrain warranty. My 08 Ram came with the LPTW. All Chrysler vehicles( couple exceptions on specific models )came WITH it( sold in US )in the time frame I posted( started with purchase dates in July of 2007 and covered 2006/2007 models purchased on that date or later through all 2009 models ).

My understanding which may be wrong is that the lifetime power train warranty was added afterward and retroactive to older Patriots in the U.S. only as incentive to boost sales. In Canada we never were offered this warranty as sales were pretty good for Chrysler products anyway.

If I had the lifetime warranty I think i'd hold on to my Patriot forever...
That's my plan 182,109 and counting.....overall I'm glad Dixie got his ride fixed and I'm very happy with my patriot I hope Dixie keeps his.....

All US sold vehicles( Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep )sold on or after July 20th something 2007 came with the LPTW through and including the 2009 models. Even covered left over 2006 models if they sold after the start date in 07. So any Patriot sold( in the US )after that start date through 09 models was covered.

Dixie - hope your Dad is home for the Holidays and glad to hear you got your toy back. Had an '83 S10 blow an engine @ 46,000. Premature failure of oil pump - after swap - engine light 3x - first 2 times were wires came loose and burned on exhaust manifold. 3rd time was o2 sensor.
What's the word on your light?

Yeah, did you get the light sorted Dixie?

I bet waiting on the UOA results was what delayed the repair.
