Was wondering which brand is best. Has anyone seen any test results. Are they all pretty much the same on performance?
I've notice several price differences among the brands at Walmart.
Thank you.

I think what's best depends somewhat on who you ask.

Some might say Royal Purple, Redline, AMSOil, etc. where others would say synthetic in a low performance vehicle like a Patriot isn't needed and it's a waste of $$$.

For me, I buy Mobile 1 on sale at Walmart then take the rebate which usually drops the price down close to Supertech conventional.:)

Sandstone pretty much nails it. Discussing engine oil is akin to discussing religion or Ford vs. Chevy. If want to pursue this, visit Bob is the Oil Guy forum, where I have been a member since it's inception in 2002.

My opinion is that for an "average" daily driver vehicle, any oil that meets the manufacturer's and API standards will give results that won't make a difference in the engine's performance and longevity. Most on BITOG will agree with this, and many believe that even oils like Walmart Supertech (made by Warren) will get your engine beyond the life of the rest of the car. There are exceptions of course, especially if you have a non-typical application. 5w20 and thinner oils need some synthetic to achieve their specifications, so they are at least a synthetic blend to start with. Synthetics have a very slight advantage at both cold and hot temps., but again there probably won't be a noticeable difference in a daily driver vehicle. Their Oil Change Interval can be increased a bit compared to a conventional oil.

If you want to preserve your sanity, do NOT visit Bob is the Oil Guy. Bunch of nuts over there.

From what I understand, at least of CVT fluids and I'd imagine oil is gonna be similar story, Amsoil is the best you'll get but is like 50% more expensive and maybe 20% better(very roughly) than the next best, which would be Valvoline.

"Best" motor oil is like asking "best" beer! 🤣
I think Sandstone said it best - I usually shop at Wally World and get Mobil 1 when on sale/rebate, or.. I know that their SuperTech Full Synthetic is VERY competitive in terms of pricing. Like so close to cost of conventional oil, why would you even bother with conventional. I think just about ANY synthetic in the proper weight, meeting the MS-6395 spec is a GOOD choice, along with a GOOD quality oil filter made for synthetic oils. I told a buddy about the SuperTech brand, and a few years ago he switched to their full synthetic high-mileage oil for his Honda Pilot with like 150K++ miles on it, and now has like 200K+ miles, and swears by it. While not considered a high-performance vehicle, the little 2.0 and 2.4 engines in these can get a real workout, between idling, higher RPMs under acceleration, maybe towing, and like me, -30 degrees in the winter to 100+ in the summers, so for a couple $ more, well worth to go to a full synthetic and I change it twice a year.

I've been using Castrol Edge high mileage, seems to run quieter, and smoother and after about 3,000 miles I think I burn about 4-5 ounces which is pretty good on an engine with 110k. I won't go much past 3,000 miles on oil because the 5W/20 is so thin it gets dark as quick as a conventional oil does.
