Hello everyone,

I’m fixing to start modding my 2012 Patriot 4x4 automatic, and first on the list is a lift kit. I’m having a hard time deciding on the best option.

Rocky Road Outfitters - the tallest at 2 1/3 inches of lift, claims to be the official Mopar kit, and has control arms which aren’t included in other kits according to RRO. $235.00

Rough Country - has 3 lifts all 2 inches. 1st is the suspension lift kit 66501 at $259.00. 2nd is the suspension lift kit with shocks 66531 at $559.95 the 3rd is the lift kit with shocks and springs 66532 at $829.00.

RT Off-Road 2 inch lift. Suspension and leveling kit at $309.00

Daystar - 1.5 inch lift kit at $170.00.

Stu’s Coils - 1 to 2 inches of lift at $600.00.

I’m not too worried about the price and this build will be for trail riding and off-roading. My first inclination is the RRO lift with the extra clearance, however I’m willing to lose 1/3 of an inch for performance so I’m thinking the RC $800 kit would probably be the best option for optimal performance (I’ve used their kits on wranglers in the past). I’m not a mechanic, but can reasonably turn a wrench when needed. I’ll probably have a shop install it. What’s y’all’s opinions and experiences with these lifts.

I’ve been through the forums and read a lot but haven’t seen any comparisons on all the available lifts and which ones are the best.

Before you decide do some research on the pros and cons of each as they've all had their share of issues, like drive line vibration due to excessive cv joint angles, etc.

My personal favorite, Stu's w/ 1" spacer:

I saw this DIY Stu’s lift, but I’m not sure my technical skills will allow me to tackle such a project.

I agree, I’m seeing a lot of post about folks that have issues and lots of positive on each lift. I was hopeful that this post might clear the muddy waters of the mixed reviews.

Thank you for the feedback.

You're welcome.

IMO, the safest lift for the driveline is Stu's since it can't over-angle the CV joints, as a spacer lift can do. In my experience, with Stu's the handling improved as well; the stock springs were too soft.

The biggest complaint with Stu's is the struts sometimes top out when extending over a bump making a "thunk" sound. Doesn't hurt the strut but some find it intolerable. It did it on mine at first but over time the springs settled in and it doesn't really happen too much any more.
I've heard the thunk-ing can be an issue with the RC loaded strut lift as well.
