I notice the belts near the passenger front tire. Should there be a cover/shield in place? Seems exposed to rocks, water elements in general?

We replaced the alternator, serpentine belt and battery in our 2017 jeep patriot sport 2wd but after driving about 2 miles it starts doing the same thing it was doing before we replaced the alternator, serpentine belt and battery. Is there something I could be missing or what else would cause the dashboard lights to dim, the battery light to light up and lose power steering?

 

Check for any error codes, it might help narrow it down.

The PCM acts as the charge controller; check the wiring between the alternator and PCM

Also, check the wiring and connections from the alternator (generator) to the starter and back to the battery :
