Hey guys, I've been searching without a clear answer on this. I'm shopping for wheels and tires, and have narrowed my search down to 2 wheels and 2 tires. Biggest hurdle I'm running into is getting the right combo of height and width. The question I have, is anyone running a 245/75r16 or a similar size tire that can elaborate on clearance issues for me? Pics to go with descriptions would be amazing! I'm almost positive I can get this tire to fit in the wheel well. (I will be doing the PWM before getting the wheels and tires, as well as the RRO lift.) AIC if you have any pics or even videos of your wheel wells and the spring perch that would be super helpful. Since you run a 245, I'd like to see where the clearance issue may be to the perch. Thanks guys!

I'm debating between the mb chaos 5's in a 15x7 and the procomp 7032 wheels in a 16x8. I'm torn between tires, but if I get the procomps i'd want to run a 245 series tire, and 245/75 is the only size in tires I'd run on an 8'in wide wheel. There is a possibility to run a 235/75r16 as well, but, the tire just seems to narrow for an 8'in wide wheel. (I am aware a smaller tire has been done though.)

I had my buddies liberty wheels and he was running 245/75R16 tires and I put them on my patriot. Tough to tell where they didn't rub. All across the back plastic I am pretty sure they rubbed but I could turn the wheel, just with a lot of noise.

Found the pictures!
thanks TJL, It looks in this pic with the PWM done they would fit. any chance you can test this theory again? Those would be the tires I'd be getting if I went with the 245/75r16. Duratracs in a C load. :smiley_thumbs_up:

Check out my build thread I think? It is in the tire and rim combo thread for sure. I had my buddies liberty wheels and he was running 245/75R16 tires and I put them on my patriot. Tough to tell where they didn't rub. All across the back plastic I am pretty sure they rubbed but I could turn the wheel, just with a lot of noise.

I have posted the pic many times, but I have 245/65-17's and have less than 1/4" clearance between my tire and the spring guard on the strut. That is the biggest limiting factor of not getting bigger tires. You would have to modify your suspension to get them to fit. Which would mean less travel on your suspension.

Are you talking about the little bit of metal at the bottom of the spring? Couldn't you just cut that off?
If you are talking about that I have already cut that off so could I run tires around 30"?

nope,not only that.
the pinch weld at the back of the wheel will rub and i still doubt you could get them in,even with spacers.

I really really like the Hankook MT's! Those have been tires I've wanted to run for a while now, and am contemplating it on the Pat, but honestly I deal with more snow and ice than anything that would really call for an M/T. It's still on the maybe list though! :D

How do the MB chaos 5's look in person. it's so hard to tell from the pics but I like that they are lite, and they are the most "off-roadish" of the MB lineup IMO. I've narrowed it down to the hankook atm rf10, or the hankook m/t's in a 30x9.50r15 if I go with the MB's...

I did more research and the 235/75r16's are recommend up to an 8'in wide wheel so I'm good with that. I like the tire selection better in the 245 (as I really want duratracs) but they make a 235/75r16 in the hankook atm rf10 so I just may pair those puppies up to the procomps.

either way I know if I choose a 30x9.50r15 or the 235/75r16 they will fit no prob. :smiley_thumbs_up:

again, thank you everyone that had contributed to this discussion.

here are some pix at stock height w 245/75/16 on Rubicon wheels. I have since installed the RRO kit and beat in the pinch weld on the back side of the front fender. My tires have around 50% not sure how much another 1/2" of tread is going to change much. I do not rub at all since I beat in the pinch weld. The RRO kit does nothing to add more room to the wheel well. The vehicle would have to come up 6-9" from stock to change the location of the wheel enough to put anything larger than a 245/75/16.. I think this is the limit. I will say after the RRO lift this is the perfect wheel, lift, and tire combo this vehicle should've came with from the factor.. You also loose 10% on your odometer and speedometer, but with both the lift and tires you are 4" over stock.

Those are some big tires.

Pretty sure those are the biggest tires I've ever seen fitted to a Patriot. I'm sitting here wondering how driveable it is with those.

When I went to a 225/75/16 on my Patriot I was having to drop down into 4th gear on the highway all the time to keep up with traffic because of the added height & weight... and those are at least an 1" taller and have to be much heavier.

Let alone if you had a blowout at highway speed. It would tear your fender right off!!
