Hello everyone, newbie here.

Just purchased a 2016 Patriot Sport and I'm trying to find out what wiring harness, and any other gear, to use. I've been to Crutchfield and Sonic, and both say they have nothing, which I take it to mean they've not researched the 2016 model.

I've done numerous searches on the forum and I've seen several posts on this topic but nothing specific to a 2016.

Any info is greatly appreciated since I'm not inclined to drop the cash for a harness for say a 2015 that I can't use.

Base 2016 Sport model with BT stereo and no steering wheel controls.

Thank you!

I'm in the process of doing this myself. Purchased a Metra XSVI-6522-NAV wiring kit, a Pioneer AVH-X3800BH, and a Metra double din dash kit.

I've ran into two problems though. First, the factory radio support bracket had to be removed. Second The big grey main harness plugs in perfectly, yet I can't get the HU to power up. Thats when I noticed the red ignition power wire wasn't wired into the grey harness, but into one of the other two harnesses on the factory side. With no way to connect the two harnesses I ran a jumper wire from my aftermarket harness to my 12v cig lighter port and connected it. HU powers up now, with no issues. I'll post some pictures shortly.

Any update on this? How's this configuration been working for you? My new stereo came in yesterday but I didn't realize it was going to be such a hassle getting a wire harness for it. At this point I would rather wire the stereo directly to the car but I cannot find a wire diagram anywhere. You'd think being a 10 year old vehicle there'd be something out there but its a freaking desert.

you may be asking crutchfield the wrong question
while theres no direct fit touchscreen radios
there are adapters to make them work

Ah, damn! That definitely would have helped. I don't look at Crutchfield that often so I didn't even think to look there. I ordered the Metra XSVI-6522-NAV that TrooperBuford suggested on eBay for $20 with free shipping. It's supposed to be here Friday so once it gets here we'll see how that goes.

Also, I noticed that Crutchfield has a $24 wiring harness and a much more expensive PAC wiring interface. Whats the difference?

Hmm nice little unit, anyone have any idea on how she works?

I didn't take any pictures of my install unfortunately but it really is super simple. The metra wiring harness that I got off Ebay hooked up to my Kenwood color-for-color. Once I connected the wires it was literally plug and play. Easily one of the quickest stereo installs I've ever done.

The hard plastic front piece of the dash that surrounds the stereo, a/c vents, and the a/c controls pops right off. Just get a knife and start at the bottom. Put the knife behind the plastic piece and begin to slowly pry it out. Once that's popped off just disconnect the A/C controls wire from the back then unscrew and disconnect the old stereo. After that connect the wiring harness, slide in the new stereo with the mounting kit attached, screw it back in and connect the front bezel back.

The only thing that could complicate the install is if your factory stereo is the one with the built in navigation or if you have steering wheel controls for the stereo. Other than that -- easy peasy.

Well first off, I've never tried to do that and would never recommend someone else do it as that can be very distracting and dangerous not only to yourself and your passengers but to other drivers no the road. On top of that I'm pretty sure its illegal in some states.

With that being said, I was getting an error on my receiver when I would try to upload my backgrounds that the car was in motion and it wouldn't let me download them (it reads my images like "media" as if I were trying to play a movie). It was giving me this error because I never hooked the ebrake wire up to anything. So instead of running the wire to my ebrake somewhere I just attached the wire to a bolt that was directly behind the stereo that was connected to the frame. That grounded the wire and made the error message go away. I don't know if this would allow you to watch movies while the vehicle was in motion, as I've never tried that, but it did get rid of that error for me.

All you have to do is ground the e-Brake wire and it will always play, its well known. Also most people that install in-dash systems allow video playback while in motion for their passengers and yes you should not be watching movies and driving!
