P0036 apparently isn't in my copy of the 2014 service manual, but problems with the heater circuit can be caused by a bad ground connection at one of the engine bay grounds. The wires can corrode in and around the crimp where it isn't always visible.

The fix is cutting off the old eyelet, stripping the wires to good metal, and adding a new eyelet. Some have used multiple eyelets or a bus bar.

Hi, I don’t know if this is any help, but I’ve got check engine light on several vehicles, including my Patriot, and all time it was a leak in the pipe for crankhouse ventilation. It’s an easy fix, so maybe you can try. Hope it works!
