I have a 2014 Jeep Patriot Sport, 5 speed manual. It was having signs of issues at 65,000 when it started making a high pitched sound in the final drive. Around 100,000 miles I started noticing a rattling sound 50-60 mph, that went away when I put it in neutral. I took it to a trusted mechanic that I have always had a good relationship with, and they determined it is going to need the transmission and the clutch replaced. I don't drive aggressively, don't haul anything, and am wondering, is this common for the Patriot? This is my first Patriot and given this is the bare bones/no power options model, the repairs are going to be worth more than the car is worth and I am not going to bother fixing it. That said, I want another manual transmission (Wrangler is out of my price range) SUV and the Patriot is one of the few.
I am essentially curious as to whether or not I should consider another Patriot. I know this forum is likely full of fans given it is a Patriot forum but...is this sort of just how this model is? Or is it just this year?
