2011 Patriot muffler

Just curious if anybody is seeing this...
I own a 2011 Jeep Patriot and I am noticing a clay colored spot showing up on the muffler; it's like the heat from the muffler is destroying the black paint. I actually though it was road grime (I live in South Georgia where there is a lot of clay roads!) but I have seen the same spot on other Patriots/Compasses. Is anybody else having this issue? What did the dealership say about it?

A can of high temp paint will fix your problem in minutes. I've read that a few people had to touch up their mufflers and the paint fades or cheeps away.

I think I had the same problem (http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=100624). Dealer said it was overspray of the undercoating. Not sure if that's what it was, but a few minutes with a wire brush and some Rustoleum high-temp paint took care of it.

Remember to go for a long enough drive after you paint to "cook" the paint on.
The directions on the can will tell you if it has to be done immediately or not.

My 2008 had the big, ugly silver (unpainted) muffler. I painted mine black a long time ago and have touched it up once already. I have that same discoloration happening again now so it's time for another touch up. I think it's where the greatest amount of heat collects so it starts burning the paint over time.
